Will be valid till 30 September

PTI has written in the official tweet that RBI will remove
Rs 2,000 notes from circulation. These notes will remain
legally valid till 30 September.

Started after demonetisation in 2016

RBI has advised all the banks of the country that the
issuance of Rs 2000 notes will be stopped with
immediate effect. RBI has taken this decision under the
Clean Note Policy. After the demonetisation in the year
2016, the government had started 2000 rupee notes.

20,000 rupees can be changed in one go

According to RBI, after May 23, 2023, you can change

notes up to a maximum of Rs 20,000. RBI has taken this
decision so that other work of the bank is not affected.

2000 note not printed since 2019

After the demonetization on 8 November 2016, the

government started printing new notes of 500 and
2000 rupees. After demonetisation, Rs 2000 notes
came in the market, but for the last few years RBI had
stopped printing Rs 2000 notes. From the financial year
2019 to 2023, not a single 2000 rupee note has been
printed.
