A visual inspection should be initially directed at the areas that are most prone to
damage and deterioration. The most prone areas to damage and deterioration are:
Engine Coolant Diverter Valve, Humidity Sensor, and SCAC Temperature Sensors &
associated Harnesses.

Cat G3500H products are equipped with an electronic mixing valve in the Separate
Circuit After Cooler (SCAC) circuit for controlling the Intake Manifold Air
Temperature(IMAT) by mixing the water flow from the SCAC engine and radiator
outlets. The engine ECM controls the position of the mixing valve with a 4-20 mA signal
to achieve the desired IMAT set in the engine configuration settings. The engine is
equipped with a humidity sensor at the compressor inlet and a SCAC temperature
sensor at the engine aftercooler second stage inlet. The engine ECM uses this
information along with boost pressure to prevent condensation inside the engine. The
engine ECM will first elevate the IMAT to prevent condensation, second it will reduce
the boost pressure by de-rating the engine. There is a parameter to communicate the
proximity to the engine humidity derate, this parameter is called "Humidity Derate
Relative Difference (%)". The Humidity Derate Relative Difference % will go from 100%
margin (full margin available) to 0% (derate is starting to be applied). There is another
parameter to communicate the exact amount of de-rate being applied, "Engine Derate
Request".

It is especially important to understand the humidity de-rate for island mode application
to ensure that the proper number of units are available during the humid months of the
year. The AGC4 will automatically shed load from an individual unit to prevent under
frequency shutdowns as a result of humidity de-rate when in base load mode for the
AGC4. The correct number of units will need to be on-site and running to prevent
frequency-related shutdowns and fulfill site power output requirements.

Calibration: The electronic mixing valve needs to be calibrated only when rebuilt, new
complete valves do not need calibration. Refer to System Operation, Testing and
Adjusting manual to Calibrate mixing valve.
