Running Head: EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICE 1

Evidence-Based Practice

a) A few approaches work towards promoting evidence-based practice (EBP) through

application and increasing knowledge.

1. Assessment

The above process involves handling issues that are relevant in various specific

situations. Such problems can include what prognosis to follow, therapy options, and

diagnostic tests. For example, a treatment may require behavioral instead of cognitive

therapy. Meanwhile, different diagnostic techniques such as radiography or urinalysis can

heavily influence what prognosis is most relevant.

2. Asking using PICO

Asking directly relevant questions from the patients is one way towards embracing the

EBP approach. The PICO (Patient/Problem, Intervention,

Comparison, and Outcome) model clinicians as more brief and clinical questions.

3. Acquire

EBP goes hand-in-hand with getting the best possible evidence that is well-researched

and from a trustworthy source. Some of the best research and medical websites are Springer

and PubMed, respectively.

4. Relevance of Information

After the Information collected is vetted ad relevant, the search for an applicable

scenario begins.

5. Evidence-based Application

During this stage, the application of the evidence collected is what but remains.

However, such application should be in line with the patient’s values and expectations.

b) The driving force towards EBP in nursing and medicine, in general, is because

people will discover ingenious and more effective ways to handle illnesses. Although the

EMP process may be extended and demanding, the results are usually backed up with

concrete facts and evidence.

However, progress towards shifting nursing to EBP is hampered by various factors.

Lack of time is probably the most significant barrier since nursing is a labor-intensive

practice. Additionally, unavailability of Information and lack of statistical skills are other

barriers that limit EBP.

c) The kind of resistance to be expected towards EBP is overt resistance. The

opposition is expected to be comfortably open since nurses, physicians, and even the

management approves of the barriers facing the EBP.

d) Other than resistance to change, there are many factors to consider before switching to

EBP. Perhaps the most critical aspect of it all is that you require assistance from other people:

1. You require an honest testimony of the personal experience of the patients involved.

2. You need the administration and management to offer their records and fund the EBP

approach.

3. Clinical experts are required to provide their opinions and research studies on various

medical issues.
