Dragon Heist - Session 2: Preparation

Read Finding Floon for more details about how the session went.

Below are the game-time notes that I prepared and took into the session.

Session Notes

Characters

Review the characters

● Akta - Tiefling Paladin, Can be pretty intimidating when she wants to be. Uses the
general fear that people have of the recent demon sightings to her advantage.
Discovered the Draco-lich skeleton
● Finzu - Halfling Monk, pretty aggressive.
● Taman - Human Rogue, thinks he’s a pretty smooth talker but is often finding
himself in situations that don’t go exactly as he had hoped. Now the proud owner
of a purple nightcap purchased from Xoblob.
● Viigo - Dwarf Cleric, Seems to know his way around Waterdeep and how to deal
with people. Certainly made a friend of the Barkeep at the Skewered Dragon.
Purchased an unknown block of material from Xoblob. Was the one who found

Game Time Notes

At the Warehouse
History

After he lost his Eye to Xanathar, Manshoon needed to get back in the game. His agents
eventually concluded that Neverember’s son, Renaer, might have another of the Eyes.
They were right, although Renaer didn’t know it: His father had given him an elaborate,
ivory mourning locket in honor of his mother. The Eye was hidden inside it.

Order of Events

● Zhentarim agents snatch Renaer Neverember and his friend Floon Blagmaar.
● While questioning Renaer in Area Z5, they realize that the Eye is in the mourning
locket and take the locket from Renaer.
● Renaer is hauled back down to Area Z2 and tied up next to Floon. Upstairs, the
Zhentarim break open the locket (it can still be found in Area Z5), remove the Eye,
and give it to a courier to carry to Manshoon.
● Floon is then hauled upstairs for questioning (the Zhentarim want to see if he
might be worth a ransom).
● Xanathar’s agents storm the warehouse. They immediately find “the prisoner”
(i.e., Floon), assume he’s Renaer, and several of their agents hustle him out to
their sewer hideout. Meanwhile, Renaer takes advantage of the confusion
downstairs to slip his bonds and hide in Area Z2.
● Xanathar’s agents do a perfunctory sweep of the warehouse and then take off,
leaving the kenku behind to kill any Zhents who show up.
Renaer

● Will be able to tell the party that:

○ He was questioned by the Zhents about the half million dragons his father
stole from the city
○ They ripped off a locket that was very precious to him
○ If they find the locket and see the secret compartment inside it, he will tell
them that he had no idea that the compartment existed or what was
stored inside it.
Warehouse Layout

Code Description Notes

Z1 Main Room Draco-lich is set up next to the staircase

Z2 Storage Closet Where Renear Neverember is hiding

Z3 Secret Room - When the door is opened a light bell can be heard above
- There are two wooden crates here. The first was stolen
from the docks and contains four wood-framed paintings
wrapped in leather worth 75 gp each - The second crate,
stolen from a caravan on the High Road contains fifteen
10-pound silver trade bars

Z4 Balcony Open second level is stacked with crates where it

overlooks the main warehouse. If they search the crates
they can roll a DC12 Investigation to find cultist clothes

Z5 Offices Each room has something

Offices

● Back wall of one of the offices has abyssal glyphs and writing. If someone can
discern what it says they will learn that it is an apology to Asmodeus.
○ “Our exaulted lord have mercy forgive us”

● Right most office has an unused paper bird sitting on a desk

● Top left office has a note confirming payment to the #Gralhunds

Investigating the Warehouse

● Cultist clothing in the crates on the second floor

● Find a set of glyphs and abyssal writing in the offices
● Find a note confirming payment to the Gralhunds

The Watch Arrives

● The door gets kicked in 10 minutes after they start the upstairs investigation. Put
them on a clock.
● Staget (think Mark Wahlberg from the Departed) is the first through the door -
“Holy shit, looks like a god damn..
● One of the watch recognizes Taman as someone who was particularly interested
in the Zhents they captured earlier
● Staget - “Well, what do you say to that you slimmy looking fucker”
● “Oh look, a bunch of dead bodies and here you are”
The Xanathar Guild Hideout
The Sewers

● Can find the sewer entrance by either talking to and bribing locals or a DC 15
Intelligence (Investigation) check
● The path is marked by a yellow symbol
● Once in the sewers, if they have not discovered the yellow markings, the party
must make three successful DC 13 Wisdom (Survival) checks.
○ A failure indicates that they have wasted time and need to backtrack
○ First Failure
■ Crocodile x2 encounter

○ Second Failure
■ Broken down wall leading to a shire where they find a Porcelain doll
with lapis lazuli eyes worth 750 GP
○ If the party fails three times that means that they wasted too much time
■ The hideout is empty except for the Goblins in Q2a and Zemk in Q5.
■ Floon’s dead body lkies in Q7.
○ Whenever they do a check in this way they can also make a DC 13 Wisdom
(Perception) check to see if they notice the yellow markings
○ The marking looks like the eye of a beholder and they follow the direction
the eye is looking
● A Gazer stands guard at the hideout entrance
● The ladder goes from the lower sewers to the upper sewers which drops the
party into Q1
