 The decision to build the clock tower on this spot was
taken by the then Jhang deputy commissioner sir James
layyal, whom the city was named after.

it as
Lyallpur was a tribute to James lyall services rendered in
the colonization of rachnna duaba and lower Chenab
valley.
 Later on during the Second World War, a network of
canals was laid down to materialize the natural and
agricultural potential of this region to feed the huge
British army.
 In 1930, it was awarded as neat and clean city.
 It severage system was based on small canals that
merged in chiniot bazaar canal.
