Assignment 5bpt
1. Encourage but do not dominate debate.
The lecturer and students often engage in online conversation at the start of the group chat.
However, as the course advances, students begin to communicate to each other instead of just the
instructor.
This allows the students to be more comfortable, for example, the learners share the same class but
not all of them are more comfortable interacting with each other in the presence of Ms Explorer, so if s
he can allow the learners to interact with each other rather than her being the initiator, the one who s
ustains, and the one who concludes all the discussions, provided that it is still within the boundaries
of the subject or anything related that can introduce new information to the learners,
3. Every now and again, stir up a little controversy.
If things become too quiet or everyone becomes too agreeable, say something that provokes debate
or encourages students to speak for the contrary position. Choose a hot topic—
a recent news article or an industry advancement—and have students discuss it.
Divide them up into two categories.
One party makes an argument, while the other side counters with an opposing argument.
Ms. Explorer, for example, may do study on Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) and present themes such as "In
order to make life easier, we have made it more complicated by discovering AI," and allow students to
agree or disagree with thorough justifications.
4. Explain why involvement is mandatory.
4. Participation in chat group should be required.
Take the time to explain to students why online conversations are an important part of the learning
process—how they give ongoing chances to reflect on, recall, and apply new information.
Explain to students how they will be evaluated on their discussion contributions and how online
community participation factors into their grade. For example, because Ms Explorer has taken the
initiative to learn about the use of these gadgets, she can redesign her curriculum to allocate a
certain mark to group participation and discussions. Students knowing that there is a mark allocation
that they can get as a reward for their involvement can grab their attention. It may seem mechanical
at first since everyone is doing it for the sake of the grade, but as time passes and new and exciting
subjects are offered, and everyone is now acquainted with each other, the group will proceed
organically.
5. Allow for Group Projects
Providing activities that students may do on their own time with a partner or small group encourages
students to share ideas and cooperate.
As in the school, you might wish to assign jobs so that each child has a sense of responsibility to the
group.
Allow, for example, once a week for a selected group of learners to do a recap of what was taught and
how it applies to our everyday lives by having them investigate the accuracy of the new information an
d return to share their findings with the entire chat group.
