Extra Questions
Q. 4. "Diversity can also be a source of discrimination." Justify the statement.
Ans. Groups of people, who may speak a certain language, follow a particular religion, live
in a specific region, etc. may be discriminated against on the basis of their customs or
languages and may be seen as inferior. Another difference is visible through their economic
backgrounds, which further adds to their inequality. People who are poor do not have the
resources or money to meet their basic needs of food, clothing, and shelter. They
experience discrimination in offices, hospitals, schools, etc.
Q. 5. How can we promote equality?
Ans. The first step towards bringing equality is ending the system of inequality and
privileges. For example, in schools, equality can be promoted by providing a uniform
culture, i.e., equal opportunities for all children regardless of differences based on race,
gender, disability, language, and social origin. In a school, all the children should be given
equal access to all the facilities that are available in the school premises.
Q. 6. What are the disadvantages of stereotypes?
Ans. Stereotyping is setting an image about people or things based on certain
characteristics or their membership to a particular group. Stereotyping is harmful for the
individual and society for the following reasons:
1. We set an image of people belonging to one community and then pass on this impression
to others. Thus, this establishes an unbroken chain of unestablished form of lies.
2. This image gets fixed and we start to recognize that group based on the set image. This
stops us from appreciating individual qualities.
Q. 7. Define Constitution.
Ans. A constitution is a set of rules for the government, often in the form of a written
document that establishes the principles of an autonomous political entity. It defines the
fundamental political principles and establishes the structure, procedures, powers, and
duties of a government.

The stereotype is the fixed notion or image of a group/person without any regard for their
individuality. This has no rational or scientific basis.
For example, the notion that girls cannot drive is a stereotype as there are a lot of good
women drivers.
