Judging Invitation & Criteria The Seattle Chinatown International District Preservation and Development Authority has organized

a photo contest and exhibition focusing on Seattles Little Saigon neighborhood. It is called EXPOSED: Little Saigon 2011. Please visit http://exposedlittlesaigon.blogspot.com/ for more info. With this contest, we hope to bring more patrons, supporters and interest to Little Saigon. The photo contest will be accepting applications through November 1st, 2011. On December 3rd & 4th, 2011, we will plan to host a photo exhibition in Little Saigon (Pacific Rim Center, 900 S. Jackson St.). An Artist Reception will also be held that Saturday for all participants, sponsors, and the Little Saigon community (pending confirmation with Photo Center Northwest). From January 21-22, 2012, the contest winners for the four categories may also have their work exhibited at the Tet in Seattle Festival at Seattle Center. This years theme is Vietnamese American. We would appreciate your assistance as a judge in helping us interpret this theme within the following four categories: Culture: images that represent the old and new Vietnamese culture, people or heritage of the area. Spaces & Places: from preserved buildings/streetscapes, to developing storefronts that define Little Saigon. Food: traditional delicacies enjoyed and bought in Little Saigon. The Marketplace: Vietnamese-American businesses in action in Little Saigon.

The contest is open to all ages. We will be having a youth bracket for those under 18, as well as the general bracket for 18 and older. We would be honored to have you participate as a judge in determining the contest winners. Because of your photography background and the organization and community you represent, we feel you would be a great member of our judging panel. Please let us know of your interest to accept or decline this position after reviewing the process below. The judging criteria includes: Relevance: how well does the photo express the category it is in? Artistic Vision: does the image tell a story, is original and/or shot from a creative angle? Overall Impression: Does the image grab the viewers attention and hold it? Is there a wow factor? Rules: A photographer can win in more than one category. The photo must meet all criteria from the entry form, be formatted correctly and include the entry fee (this will be checked by SCIDpda prior to judges reviewing any submittals).

Process: 1. From November 4th, 2011 to November 9th, 2011, each judge will preselect their top 5 per category for each bracket off the Photobucket website where all the entries will be uploaded. Screenname & password will be given once judges confirm. 2. All judges should email Yvette Kieu at yvettek@scidpda.org by November 9th with their 40 (20 photos from the youth bracket and an additional 20 for the general bracket) selections, so that all images can be printed for viewing/discussion during a face-to-face meeting with all judges present. 3. Judges will meet together during the week of November 14th (date will be confirmed once schedules are available) to choose their final category winners for each bracket. 4. The final winners of each category (1 for each) will be presented at the Artist Reception on December 3rd, 2011 from 5pm to 7pm. All judges are invited and encouraged to attend.
