Badly Dubbed
It’s great to see that the show car scene is slowly
but surely moving away from the all show and no go
movement! In fact, more than ever before it seems the
popularity of cars that offer both show and go is on the
up and this issue is a great reflection of that.
Chris Roberts’ stunning Mk7.5 on cover is the perfect
example of a nicely balanced new wave car that offers
the best of both worlds… it’s just as at home on the
show field as it would be on a track day or the daily
commute. Canadian, Mike Lovas’ 1.8T Rabbit (p62) is a
great example of how you can fully restore a classic VW
and retain all the elements that made it a great car in
the first place, while gaining some serious performance
by fitting a later, more modern force-induced motor.
Okay, so Mike Pauciullo’s 1000whp Mk4 1.8T (that he
claims is still street legal), may be a bit extreme for
most but then things would be boring without people
pushing the boundries and us documenting it for you!
Elsewhere in the issue we’ve got a show and go Mk2
Jetta coupe running Abt add-ons and a VR6 turbo motor,
a Mk7 Golf R sleeper built by ADS running 500bhp of
Revo power, plus we’ve complied a bunch of the best
go-faster mods from Forge Motorsport to cater for all
budgets. Enjoy the issue guys and gals!

What’s New?
THE SKIDS
When ECS Tuning reached out to our own Jamie
Orr (Instagram.com/xjamiexoe) about testing
their Street Shield Skid Plate, they probably
didn't expect he was going to take it this far.
Jamie tracked down a former VW show car,
and is going to take on a 8,000+ mile journey
across the USA and Canada, to test the skid
plate and the car on the Dalton Highway in the
Arctic Circle… all in only 14 days.
The car will be modified en route, with stops
at Black Forest Industries, APR, KW Suspensions
and more. By the time it reaches the gravel
roads in the Arctic, we're expecting lots of lows,
bigger wheels, upgraded engine mounts, and
more. Will Jamie and the car make it there,
and back out, alive? Stay tuned to the mag and
Jamie's social media to find out!

WOLFSBURG
WONDERS
We take a closer look at the Forge Motorsport VW Group
tuning range and highlight some of our favourites.

F
orge Motorsport might now have one of the
largest and most diverse ranges of aftermarket
tuning kit anywhere in the world, but this is a
company that's long been closely intertwined with
VW Group models of all kinds. The guys and girls
at Forge have a long standing passion for (not
to mention understanding of) Wolfsburg's finest cultural export,
and you don't have to look too far to find evidence of this – its
stunning Mk1 Golf race car (main image) being but one example.
The sheer size of Forge's range for VWs, SEATs, Skodas
and Audis can be dauntingly large at times, which is why we've
worked with the guys themselves to bring you this guide; a
breakdown of the key parts they think you should plump for at
certain, popular price points. They range from humble gear for
£50, right up to cutting edge tuning hardware worth several
thousand pounds a go, meaning there should be something
suitable for all budgets.

August 2018 79
TUNING BY NUMBERS At a whisker over £50, Forge's
turbo blanket is not only good
value but also helps reduce temps
in your engine bay and preserve
the life of your car's turbo

AROUND £50
A modest budget needn't be a barrier to aftermarket expression,
particularly when it comes to the Forge Motorsport range. Granted,
you won't be selecting from dump valves and intercooler kits for a
'bullseye' these days, but there's still plenty to tempt those keen on
stamping their personality onto their car.
This turbo blanket is a good example of a Forge product that's both
effective and, well, cost effective! Developed on Forge's own Mk1 Golf race
car (you know the one), it has been designed to isolate one of the biggest
heat sources in your engine bay, the turbo, which in turn helps preserve the
performance and condition of other engine bay ancillaries, prolonging their working
life in the process. The Forge turbo blanket can also assist in reducing lag and reducing intake
temperatures, all while looking cooler than a penguin eating a 99 with a Flake.
The Forge Motorsport turbo blanket can be fitted to the following turbos: T4, T5, TD05, T25,
Garrett GTX28 and GTX30 Range, Borg Warner EFR6258, etc.

Price: £50.39

UP TO £100
You might well be surprised by just how much you can get for a ton from
Forge range of aluminium hardware, with even some re-circulation valves
coming in well under budget. We've opted to include this Blow Off Adaptor
though, primarily as it's the best way of achieving one of the most sought
after noises in tuned car circles – that utterly atmospheric blow-off valve
'chuckle,' as satisfying as it is addictive. Designed to fit the VW Group
TSI Turbo engine (though it will also work with earlier applications of the
2.0 FSIT, the later TFSI two-litre, and the 5 cylinder TTRS), this adaptor is
fully compatible with the OEM Bosch engine management system and can
therefore be fitted without chucking on the EML light.

Price: £67.40 At just £67.40 this Forge Blow

Off Adaptor comes in well under
the £100 budget and offers that
addictive turbo 'chuckle' which
makes it a bargain in our book!

the 1.4T, 1.8T and 2.0T FSI and TSI engines,
including those built between 2011 and 2013
and offered with an IHI turbo from the factory.
The valve itself is something of a hybrid,
combining Forge's existing replacement
solenoid controlled recirculating valve with its
Blow Off Valve (BOV) adaptor. This makes it a
full replacement atmospheric BOV, one that's
proven to integrate with OEM hardware in a
seamless fashion while negating the issues
experienced with standard, VW solenoid valves,
namely diaphragm failure, and as a direct result,
boost leaks and blunted performance.

Forge's induction kit for the Mk6
GTI can increase power by 3-5bhp
on a stock car (but whose keeping
theirs stock?) and around 15bhp
on those that have been remapped

UP TO £500
Think induction kits are just for those finding their way in the world of tuning? Then
prepare to think again, because Forge's induction offering for the Mk6 Golf GTI is a
polished effort that's been proven to enhance performance. It's about as far from a
bonky, cable-tied eBay cone filter as it's possible to get.
A complete, fit-and-forget replacement for the OEM airbox and inlet tract, Forge's
induction kit comprises a new intake made from mandrel bent 70mm aluminium (powder
coated in a natty shade of black), a high-flow Pipercross filter housed in a custom made
enclosure situated at the front of the Golf. All connections are made via high quality
silicone couplers and stainless steel hose clamps.
The result? Well, a full 3-5bhp on a completely stock engine and as much as 15bhp on
those cars running remapped engines, underscoring the limitations of the OEM induction
system. Factor in the similar increases in torque, and it's clear to see why this kit has
proved so popular amongst the Mk6 GTI community.

uprated Front Mounted Intercooler (FMIC) kit for the Mk5 Golf GTI, still among the most popular models in
the modified VW scene. It isn't merely a stunning bit of Forge engineering (though that's true, naturally),
it's an important upgrade for those chasing sky-high power figures from their fifth gen GTI.
Based around a proven 'bar & plate' core, Forge's replacement intercooler comes in at a beefy
650x500x50mm, making it considerably larger than the OEM 'cooler VW saw fit to equip the Mk5 GTI with

you covered; we've been in touch with Forge
and asked them what they class as the most
important upgrade for over a thousand pounds
and here's what they suggested....
Forge's biggest, most capable brake kit is, as
you might expect given its size and price tag,
a bit of a beast, comprising 356x32mm discs
with six piston calipers, braided lines and EBC
Yellow Stuff pads, the latter ideal for fast road
and track day use. The discs sport grooves to
aid cooling and to better remove braking residue
and road grime, while the six pot calipers are
both hard working and capable, more than able
to haul even the hardest charging of cars to a
halt in no time.
The size of the discs means that Forge's
brake kit is only suitable for fitment with 18"
wheels or larger, and those running standard VW
wheels may need to fit a 5mm spacer in order
to clear the back of the spokes.

THE WEATHER EXPERIENCE

With rain forecast it looked like 2018’s Dustoff

would become more a Rinseoff event instead,
but would the wet weather dampen spirits?
We’ve got a feeling we know the answer…
Words: Tom Whitaker Photos: Tom Whitaker & Moritz Schmid.

Above: We were surprised at just how many Mk7's were in attendance. Pulled arches, deep dish and all the lows… now that's a stance! Clearly Ted loves a rag top!

I
t’s safe to say I have been attending
car shows for a long time, all kinds
of shows for all kinds of cars. And
you know what, they are all different.
Different cars, different venues,
different styles and very different
people. And this is where my favourite show of
the season shines, because of the people. I go
to a car show for the cars of course, but it's the
people that keep me there all day and returning
every season. New England Dustoff has far and
away the best crowd, but then I would say that
being the event organiser. Honestly, though,
it’s also one of the reasons I keep putting on
the event each year, because of the crowds of
people it attracts. eEuroparts brought

Thompson, CT then you know it's the cars and the
people that make the show what it is. No matter
what the weather may be doing (and trust me,
we’ve seen it all over the years) the cars and the
crowds venture out every April regardless.
This year’s event was held on Sunday the
29th, but before the VW/Audi gathering could
happen on the Charity Laps for Foundation
Blue’s event had to happen on Saturday
afternoon. Now in it's third year this additional
event has become a favourite for show goers,
and it has grown into quite a spectacle. Pay a

Most would agree that rain in the morning
usually signals a death blow for many shows,
but Dustoff is different. People love Dustoff,
even when it rains. In fact, most have just come
to accept it’s going to happen so thankfully
the crowds still came. The cars rolled in… it
rained… and more cars and crowds showed up.
Above: Foundation Blue's Charity Laps on the Saturday proved popular with 25 cars taking to the track In fact, the show went on as if it was a sunny and
warm day with over 300 show cars rolling up.
Strolling through the show grounds gave a
good sense of where the trends and styles are
headed this season. The quality of the cars
was out of this world. From full on builds to
daily drivers to restorations, it seemed if you
were looking for ideas or inspiration it was
there. Most surprising to me was the huge
turnout of air-cooled VWs and Mike Cashman’s
Rat Rod on BBS RS just killed it. Knowing how
unforgiving these cars are on a nice day I was
very impressed at just how many came out in
the wet. Dustoff’s Legend Class featured some
great builds competing for a spot on the coveted
Legend Cup. Dave Ferreira’s flawless Corrado
16v turbo on BBS RF's kept company with Chris
and Amanda Reis’ class winning Mk2 Jetta Coupe
and 1.8T swapped GTI. Weirdly all looking even
better when wet. I guess that's kind of a thing.
Thankfully the Dustoff crew had use of the

hidden gems, too.
As per usual judges went out and picked
their favourites and awards were eventually
handed out. Whell Lab awarded a shiny new set

afterwards the crowds started to finally make
their way back to their cars. Another year of

be very understated.
As a side note, because of the fabulous

What are these Reloaded pages all about
then? We launched this monthly regular feature
back around the time we celebrated PVW’s

these days, we know we’re not the only ones
who enjoy a good look back in to modded VW
