II. Differentiate the ball bearings into roller bearings. (5 items)

Ball bearings are used for shaft bearings and rocker arm bearings. Special deep-
groove ball bearings are used in radial engines to transmit propeller thrust and radial
loads to the engine nose section. This type of bearing is used in gas turbine engines to
support one end of a shaft (radial loads) and to maintain the shaft from moving axially
since it can handle both radial and thrust loads (thrust loads).
Roller bearings has generally used two types which is the straight roller and the tapered
roller bearings. Straight roller bearings are utilized when only radial loads are applied to
the bearing, while the tapered roller bearings can withstand both radial and thrust loads,
it is also used for the crankshaft main bearings in high power reciprocating aircraft
engines. Additionally, they are used in gas turbine applications with substantial radial
loads.
