Comparative Study of Cloud Service

Providers: A Performance, Cost, and Service

Analysis

Objective
The objective of this project is to conduct a comparative study of major cloud service providers,
such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP),
focusing on performance, cost, and available services. The study aims to provide insights and
recommendations for selecting the most suitable cloud service provider for specific use cases.

Description
The project aims to conduct a comparative study of major cloud service providers, specifically
AWS, Azure, and GCP. The study focuses on performance, cost, and available services. The
project involves conducting a literature review, comparing core infrastructure services,
evaluating performance, analyzing costs, exploring additional services, and deploying
representative workloads. Data collection and analysis will be performed, and a comparative
analysis will be conducted, considering factors such as performance, cost, scalability, ease of
use, and available services. The project will conclude with recommendations for selecting the
2
most suitable provider based on specific requirements. A comprehensive project report and
a concise presentation summarizing the findings will be prepared. The timeline allows
sufficient time for each phase, ensuring thorough research, experimentation, data analysis, and
documentation.

Key Features:
● Evaluation of core infrastructure services (compute, storage, networking, databases,
security) offered by AWS, Azure, and GCP.
● Performance analysis considering metrics like latency, throughput, scalability, and
availability.
● Cost analysis, including pricing models, cost structures, and pricing flexibility.
● Assessment of additional services and specialized offerings (AI/ML, serverless
computing, big data analytics, IoT).
● Comparison of management tools, developer support, and integration options.
● Experiments/simulations to evaluate performance and cost efficiency of representative
workloads.
● Data collection and analysis to derive insights and recommendations

Implementation
● Conduct literature review on cloud computing and the services offered by major
providers.
● Compare key features, offerings, and capabilities of AWS, Azure, and GCP.
● Perform benchmarking tests or simulations to evaluate performance aspects.
● Analyze pricing models, cost structures, and cost implications.
● Deploy representative workloads on each provider and evaluate their performance and
cost.
● Collect and analyze relevant data from experiments/simulations.
● Conduct comparative analysis, highlighting strengths, weaknesses, and suitability.
3
● Summarize findings and provide recommendations for selecting a suitable provider.

Project timeline
The 19-week project will focus on conducting a comparative study of major cloud service
providers, AWS, Azure, and GCP, considering performance, cost, and available services. The
initial two weeks will involve project initiation, defining objectives, and conducting a literature
review on cloud computing. Weeks 3-4 will be dedicated to a comparative analysis of the core
infrastructure services provided by each provider, documenting similarities and differences.

Weeks 5-7 will focus on performance evaluation, defining metrics, and conducting
benchmarking tests or simulations. Performance data will be collected and analyzed. Weeks 8-
10 will involve a cost analysis, investigating pricing models, cost structures, and pricing
flexibility. A detailed comparison of the cost-efficiency of each provider will be performed.

Weeks 11-13 will be dedicated to researching and exploring additional services and specialized
offerings provided by the providers. The availability and suitability of these services for different
use cases will be analyzed. Weeks 14-16 will involve deploying representative workloads on
each provider, monitoring performance, and collecting relevant data. The performance and cost
efficiency of each provider for the deployed workloads will be evaluated.

Weeks 17-18 will focus on consolidating and analyzing the collected data, including
performance metrics, cost breakdowns, and insights from the comparative analysis. A
comparative analysis considering performance, cost, scalability, ease of use, and available
services will be conducted. Recommendations for selecting the most suitable provider based on
specific requirements will be provided.
