The Hungry Sea Monster

The sea monster roared. The mermaid sang a song that put him to sleep.

He was very, very hungry.

A stingray swam past.
A dolphin swam past.
“I’m going to eat you!” the sea monster roared.
“I’m going to eat you!” the sea monster roared.
The stingray tickled him and got away.
The dolphin jumped high and low and got away.
A pirate ship sailed past.
A whale swam past.
“I’m going to eat you!” the sea monster roared.
“I’m going to eat you!” the sea monster roared.
The crew gave him their biggest barrel of biscuits.
The whale sprayed him with water and got away.
The sea monster gobbled them all up.
A mermaid swam past. The pirates sailed away.
“I’m going to eat you!” the sea monster roared.
Now the sea monster did not feel hungry at all.

♦ Your sea monster picture
Create a picture of a sea monster. Think about what you
want your sea monster to look like.
1. First do a sketch of the monster on some spare paper.
2. Draw your good copy on a large piece of paper. Colour
your sea monster with oil pastels.
3. Use food dye mixed with water to paint a wash over
the top of your picture.
4. Give your picture a title. Write it on a strip of white
paper and stick it to your painting.
♦ New story ending
Write a different ending for the story. Work with a friend.
Only write the ending of the story. Perhaps the pirates don’t
feed the monster and it gets really angry! Or maybe the
whale eats the monster or the monster eats the whale!
