Here is a document explaining all the grading criteria in detail. It also contains the
grading sheet that we will be using to grade your work.
Formatting:
Font: Times New Roman, size 12 (except for the title and subtitles that can be larger)
Spacing: 1,5
Length: 5000 – 6000 words (10-12 pages with 1,5 spacing), including footnotes, but
excluding the list of references
A list of references is mandatory (at least 5 scholarly texts – books+articles – excluding
sources). Sources should be listed separately (dictionaries and corpora).
A title page is mandatory.
Quoting style: please use the style recommended by the journal Suvremena lingvistika
(http://suvlin.ffzg.hr/index.php/hr/autori/kako-prijaviti-prilog)

Grading assignments – 1 assignment = total of 30 points


- Content and understanding (clear understanding of the discussed issues) = maximum 7
points
- Illustrations (illustrative examples) = maximum 7 points
- Sources (the best sources possible used in the best possible way) = maximum 4 points
- Focus (clear and specific writing) = maximum 3 points
- Originality (the author’s original thoughts, ideas and conclusions) = maximum 3
points
- Spelling, grammar, formal requirements = maximum 3 points
- Organization (clear division into parts) = maximum 3 points

Explanation of criteria:

Content and understanding = clear understanding of the discussed issues

7 = clear understanding with all significant issues taken into account


6, 5, 4 = clear understanding, but some minor issues not mentioned
3, 2, 1, 0 = some understanding, with one or several major issues not mentioned

Illustrations = illustrative examples

7 = illustrative examples of all significant issues


6, 5, 4 = illustrative examples, but some minor illustrations missing
3, 2, 1, 0 = some examples but not illustrative or some major illustrations missing

Sources = the best sources possible used in the best possible way

4 = several texts and sources over and above the compulsory reading, combined in an
excellent way
3, 2 = required number of texts combined in an excellent way OR required number of
texts combined in a good way
1, 0 = poor usage of sources

Focus = clear and specific writing

3 = all of the issues mentioned are significant for the aim of the assignment
2 = most of the issues mentioned are significant for the aim of the assignment
1, 0 = some of the issues mentioned are significant for the aim of the assignment

Originality = the author’s original thoughts, ideas and conclusions

3, 2 = the paper was really interesting to read because of the author's original scientific
contribution
1, 0 = the paper was not really interesting and was lacking the author's original scientific
contribution

Spelling, grammar, formal requirements

3 = excellent spelling and grammar (including all formal requirements (e.g. literature,
punctuation))
2, 1 = good spelling and grammar (including some formal requirements (e.g. literature,
punctuation))
0 = poor spelling and grammar

Organization = clear division into parts

3 = all parts of the paper are clearly visible, there is very good cohesion in the text
2, 1 = not all parts of the assignment are clearly visible,
0 = the paper is badly organized
