INTRODUCTION TO THE WORKFLOW:

The vest is worked from bottom upwards in two separate pieces: front and back. Then the
parts are sewn together along the sides using mattress stitch. The shoulder seams are sewn
with shoulder seam. Armholes and neckline are framed with 1x1 ribbing.
Begin by swatching to determine which needle size you need to achieve the correct gauge.
MATERIALS AND TOOLS:
Yarn: Drops Lima (65% Wool, 35% Alpaca) 50 g/ 100m or Drops Karisma (100 % Wool)
50g/ 100m 6, 7, 8, 9 skeins.
Note: you can choose another yarn brand. It can be any 8ply, DK or light worsted yarn that
allows you to obtain the correct gauge.
● A pair of 4mm (US 6) needles (circular needles can be used also)
● A pair of 2.5mm (US 1.5) circular needles 60 cm (24”) and longer for Magic loop, or
dpns to work armhole and neckbands in the round. For front and back part ribbing you
can use 2.5mm (US 1.5) both circular and straight needles
● Tapestry needle
● Stitch holder or about 20cm of waste yarn (8”)
● Measuring tape
● Stitch marker
● Scissors
GAUGE (TENSION) approximate:
20sts and 28rows = 10x10cm (4x4”) in stockinette stitch after washing and blocking. The
swatch is made with 4 mm (US 6) knitting needles. If your gauge doesn’t match indicated, try
going up or down one needles size. It is important to obtain the indicated gauge so that the
ready-made item has correct proportions.
ABBREVIATIONS
K - knit
P - purl
St(s) - stitch(es)
Rep - repeat
WS - wrong side
RS - right side
CO – cast on
K2tog – decrease, knit two stitches together. Insert tip of your right-hand needle in front of
second stitch, then in front of first stitch on the left-hand needle, bring yarn under and over
the top of the right-hand needle tip, pull through both stitches and drop them off the left-hand
needle.
Please refer to the video for K2tog instructions.
SSK - Slip, slip, knit results in a left-slanting decrease. The slip, slip, knit decrease is the
mirror image of knit 2 stitches together (k2tog): It slants to the left. Slip the first stitch from
the left-hand needle (as if to knit) to the right-hand needle. Do the same with the next stitch.
Insert the left-hand needle into the front loops of these stitches (left to right). Knit the 2
slipped stitches together.
Please refer to the video for SSK instructions.
SOME TECHNIQUES USED IN THIS PATTERN:
Mattress stitch: with the right side of each piece facing you, work back and forth from one
piece to the other, picking up the inside loop of the first row of stitches. Keep the seam the
same tension as the knitting.
Please refer to the video demonstrating how to work side seams.

Shoulder seams (Grafting) on cast-off edges:

Align the cast-off edges of each piece with the Right Sides facing you. Starting at one side,
slide your needle under both legs of the first knit stitch, just underneath the bound-off edge.
Then repeat the same on the first stitch on the mirroring side. Work back and forth in this
manner along the seam.
Please refer to the video demonstrating how to work shoulder seams.
Edge stitches:
Edge stitches are knitted on the RS and purled on the WS. They are included in the stitch
count and are mentioned in the pattern throughout.

Armholes framing (both alike):

The armholes are worked in the round on 2,5 mm (US 1.5) circular needles or dpns. Both
armholes are framed in the same manner.
RS facing pick up and knit 1 st in every st along the slanted edges, where decrease for the
armhole framing were made. Along the “row ends”, where you worked with no decreases
pick up and knit approx. 3 sts in every 4 sts. It means that you need to pick up 1 sts in each of 3
sts, then skip the 4th st. It is important to pick up an even number of stitches. Start at the
bottom of the armhole and work clockwise.
When you finish picking up the stitches, place a stitch marker at the beginning of the row.
Work in K1, P1 ribbing for 9, 10, 11, 12 rows in the round.
Bind off using the Icelandic bind off method. Make sure not to bind off too tightly. Please
refer to the video demonstrating how to bind off using the Icelandic bind off method.
Neckband:

The neckband is worked in the round on 2.5 mm (US 1.5) circular needles or dpns. Right side
facing and starting from the left shoulder seam pick up and knit approx. 2 sts for every 3 edge
sts along the vertical sides (the upper shoulders parts, where decreases were not made). On
the horizontal sides, where the sts were bonded off, and neckline slant sides, where decreases
were made, pick up and knit in all sts. The number of stitches must be even. When all the
stitches are picked up, place a stitch marker at the beginning of the row.
Work in K1, P1 ribbing in the round for 10, 10, 12, 12 rows.
Bind off using the Icelandic bind off method. Make sure not to bind off too tightly.
Weave in all ends.
