1.1 Objective
This tutorial’s objective is to provide the user with guidance on how to model, apply loads, and run the
analysis for a container ship midship cargo hold model as required by DNV GL Rules Pt.5 Ch.2 Sec.6
[2].
Note that all dimensions are fictitious and may appear far off requirements at places.

- CV FEM Tutorial Complated.zip (representing end state of this tutorial, including the GeniE
workspace)
No5holdJS_Commands.txt is a text file containing all GeniE scripting commands in this tutorial. This
means that if the user paste all these commands into GeniE’s command window, you will reach the end
state of this tutorial (model with analysis and code check completed).
Please note that the No5holdJS_Commands.txt file refers to two additional text files:
- ShipData.xml (including information needed for running the hull girder adjuster):
These two xml files needs to be placed under the following folder to be created by the user:
C:\DNVGL\Workspaces\NAUTICUSHULL\ModelFiles
11
If the user wants to run only parts of this tutorial, you can search for the chapter number in
No5holdJS_Commands.txt, paste all previous commands into GeniE’s command window, and then

For the web stiffeners attached to the bilge longitudinals as shown above, we see that the Y/Z grid and the
longitudinal stiffener each represents a snapping point. We need to make sure that the web stiffeners
in these positions (blue circle in figure above) is snapped to the longitudinals and not the Y/Z grid. This
can be achieved by switching on and off the Y/Z grid while creating the stiffeners.
