I3 Rev2.26.4
INTERNAL
USE ONLY

The VDR | DATANALYZER is an application developed to add value in the analysis of VDR data, detecting most
common errors that could delay or prevent the issuance of the CoC.

The main target for this tool is to support the technician who goes on board the vessels to perform “APT service”
(Annual Performance Test), collecting data from multiple sensors. The increase of efficiency and the mitigation of
failures is the core purpose of this application.

It has been proven that this tool can avoid unplanned expenses, when there is a requirement of having to go on board
to redo the tests, due to faulty information or poor procedures executed. This entire flow jeopardizes the issuance of
the COC, thus causing the client to be uncovered.

Motivation…

JRC TMSC measures the performance of each Center of Excellence. In recent times, the rate of return on board has
increased significantly... we attribute this to the large amount of information that must be verified and gathered in a
short time by the service engineer.

For this reason, JRC Brasil has created a group that receives APT data from our technicians and representatives and
pre-analyzes the data before submitting it to JRC TMSC.

Within this group came the idea of creating a tool for optimizing the analysis of APT data, with the objective of
reducing time and errors in the analysis.

NOTE: Audio and Image data will always require technician checking/analysis.

Software versioning criteria

Version numbering follows the concept called the Semantic Version Specification.

Summary

Given a version number MAJOR.MINOR.PATCH, the meaning is:

• The MAJOR version will be used when the system itself receives a major refactoring or adds a new
VDR series model in the future.
• MINOR versions are the most common when we incrementally add functionality in a backward-
compatible way
• PATCH versions are when we make backward-compatible bug fixes or small changes.

CoC Mode and Engineer Mode

VDR | DATANALYZER can recognize and load two kinds of file structures from VDR data.

One is created when downloading data directly from VDR, loading data from a folder using a
timestamp like a format [YYYYMMDDHHMMSS]. It Will load Engineer Mode.

Expected folder internal file structure for Engineer Mode

in case of a VDR JCY-1900 Series

Another is when loading a prepared folder structure to send to analysts of CoC, folder like
[SHIP’s NAME]_1800APT or [SHIP’s NAME]_1900APT. It Will load CoC Mode.

Direct PDF form manipulation tools

The toolbar available in APT Form allows us to carry out all the operations necessary to fill in the form VOYAGE
DATA RECORDER PERFORMANCE TEST REPORT directly from the VDR | DATANALYZER, without need of any
other external program.

Functionalities available in the toolbar from left to right we have:

• Table of contents
• Page number
• Find
• Zoom out
• Zoom in
• Rotate
• Fit to page
• Page view
• Print
• Save
• Save as
• Unpin toolbar

This functionality gives us two options, shown at the top of the Test Report they are the buttons [ Refill ] and
[ Export ] available on both modes, [ Submitted Form ] and [ Filled by App ], only in CoC Mode

Refill (enabled for Engineer Mode | CoC Mode)

As the form remains editable, if you edit something this button returns the data to the original autocompleting of the
application, despite the changes made by the technician. To change manually a field, first use the [ Export ] option.

Export (enabled for Engineer Mode | CoC Mode)

After checking the data automatically filled in, pressing [ Export ] the VDR | DATANALYZER, will send the generated
file for your standard PDF viewer.

We use Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, and after exporting, we can add the information as we usually do when manually
fill in the PDF.

TIP 1: Vessel data such as Name and IMO number are recorded exactly as collected from the VDR
and editing is disabled when generating the PDF. If the information is not correct, this data must be
changed directly in the VDR equipment. This ensures that the VDR Performance Test Report data is
exactly what is configured.
TIP 2 : In the case of 1900 series VDR, the Certificate of 406Mhz Satellite EPIRB for Annual Testing
page of the FCC ( Float-free Capsule ) will also be included in the form.
NOTE 1: Until the current build we have not analyzed audio data (Mic, VHF) or image data (RADAR,
ECDIS).
NOTE 2: The Flag and Gross Tonnage data, still on an experimental basis, if an Internet connection
is available, data are collected on the web via API (Application Programming Interface).
If necessary, in new updates of this application, we can implement data acquisition such as Date keel
laid and Date fitted, which are not normally available on the Internet, requiring create our own API.
