  TRAINING PROPOSAL

I. Activity: Action Research Made Easy: Training–Workshop on Classroom

-Based Action Research.

II. Date: August 16-18, 2019

III. Venue: Dapitan City

IV. Participants: 50 pax

V. Budgetary Requirement: Php 100,800.00

VI. Source of Funds: 2019 HRD Funds

VII. Background and Rationale:

Teachers, Administrators and other practitioners in Basic Education

have numerous problems and issues in the classrooms and within the school
that needs immediate resolution. Oftentimes, solutions and alternatives for
such problems and issues within their area of assignment need not come from
higher offices. It is expected that teachers and leaders in the schools or
districts are equipped with abilities and skills to implement practical courses of
action.
However, relevance can only be guaranteed if the process of addressing
the problem has undergone a scientific method and not based on haunches
and guesses. To be scientific in its processes is to conduct classroom based or
school based action research. Relevance is guaranteed because the focus of
each research project is determined by the teachers or school principals or
supervisors, who are also the primary consumers of the findings. In this way,
the action research helps the school practitioners to be more effective at what
they care most about; teachers’ teaching and the development of the students.
Seeing students grow is probably the greatest joy that the teachers and school
leaders can experience.
The action research can be done by a single teacher or by a group of
teachers/administrators who share an interest in a common problem, or by the
entire school. However, on top of this is the support of the school heads,
supervisors and higher officials of the Department of Education by
acknowledging first the need to conduct classroom based or school based
action research. They should view action research as a tool to solve a problem
that needs immediate solution. Moreover, they should see action research as a
reflective process of progressive problem solving. The primary purpose
therefore of an action research is to solve a particular problem and to produce
guidelines for best practices.
It is expected that through this professional development of teachers and
administrators, doing research will be made easy through practical and logical
approach that will make practitioners do research not just for compliance
purposes but for problem solving. This proposed three-phase training shall
develop competence of teachers and administrators in doing action research
from problem identification/proposal development, data analysis and
interpretation, and packaging the final report ready for publication or
presentation. Introduction part shall cover unpacking of competencies
where assessment gaps could be identified as potential research problem.

VIII. OBJECTIVES:

The training is designed to awaken participants’ interest in doing

research. In a friendly approach, action research will be introduced as a model
of professional development through discovery and self-reflection. Thus,
participants are expected to feel authority and ownership of their work coupled
with responsibility and accountability in their respective areas of concern.

At the end of the training, participants should have:

1. Listed assessment gap for research work.

2. Identified a researchable problem that requires action research.
3. Designed appropriate methodology for action research.
4. Prepared a plan of action to address the identified problem.
5. Outlined and wrote an action research proposal ready for implementation.

IX. Participants
30 - Teacher I-III (3 in Elem. & 3 in Sec. per district)
7 - SPED Teachers

X. Training Methodologies
Lecture-discussion with andragogical approach will be employed. A
workshop will follow after each lecture. At the end of the seminar, the
participants are expected to submit output expected as proof of completion.
Since write-shops are embedded in the design, each participant is expected to
bring a personal computer (laptop/tablet) for the entire training duration.
Appropriate software for data analysis will be installed as needed. Having
individual separate mouse and flash drives is also suggested during the second
phase. The venue shall be able to supply convenience outlets for the laptop
computers.
Each participant with full attendance will be granted certificate of
completion at the end of the last phase of the training. Otherwise, only
certification of attendance will be given.
