INTRODUCTION

The consumption of illegal and dangerous drugs, such as cocaine, yields a

myriad of detrimental effects that have far-reaching consequences on both your

physical and psychological well-being. These substances have the power to disrupt

the delicate balance of your entire existence, thereby fundamentally disrupting the

rhythm and pattern of your daily life.

When an individual succumbs to the allure of dangerous drugs, it initiates a

vicious cycle that shatters their previous way of life. The drug's potent and addictive

nature hijacks the brain's reward system, impelling individuals to repeatedly seek out

and use it, disregarding any rational decision-making skills they may have

possessed prior to its consumption. Consequently, the grasp of addiction tightens,

overpowering an individual's ability to exercise control over their impulses and

desires.

As the cycle perpetuates, the grip of cocaine addiction weakens the

foundations upon which a fulfilling and meaningful life is built. Routine tasks, once

taken for granted, become increasingly elusive as the drug consumes more of their

time, energy, and attention. Gradually, the responsibilities and commitments that

were once integral to their being are discarded and neglected, as the destructive

relationship with cocaine takes precedence. Consequently, relationships disintegrate,

careers falter, and familial connections fracture under the weight of this insidious

addiction.

1
Drug addiction is not a disease as it may seem to many people. It is a

psychological disorder that leads a person to use drugs excessively. Even though

the person may know that the drugs are harming his body, he cannot control his urge

to consume more and more drugs. The addiction may start with a small quantity but

gradually it increases with time. The person becomes a slave of drugs and cannot

live without them. He may start stealing money to buy drugs. In some cases, he may

even sell his body to buy drugs.

Additionally, the physical toll inflicted by illegal drugs use is severe and

enduring. The drug ravages the body, infiltrating every system and organ. The heart,

a vital organ responsible for sustaining life, is especially vulnerable, as cocaine

accelerates heart rate and blood pressure to dangerous levels. The prolonged abuse

of dangerous drugs can lead to heart attacks, strokes, and even sudden death,

further fragmenting the body's delicate equilibrium.

Furthermore, the physiological consequences of cocaine addiction extend far

beyond the cardiovascular system. The brain itself, the epicenter of one's thoughts,

emotions, and cognitive functions, faces irreparable damage. Chronic cocaine use

alters neurotransmitter pathways, diminishing the brain's natural capacity to

experience pleasure and happiness. This often culminates in profound feelings of

depression, anxiety, and an overall sense of emptiness that permeates every aspect

of one's life.

The drug sends high levels of dopamine, a natural chemical messenger in

your body, into the parts of your brain that control pleasure. This buildup causes

intense feelings of energy and alertness called a high.

Other short-term effects of cocaine may include:

 Extreme sensitivity to touch, sound, and sight

 Intense happiness

 Anger/irritability

 Paranoia

 Decreased appetite

Lindsay Lohan’s Drug Abuse

Lindsay Lohan is a well-known actress and singer who rose to fame in the

early 2000s. However, her career has been plagued by numerous legal and personal

issues, including her struggle with drug addiction it began in her early twenties, and it

quickly spiraled out of control. She has struggled with a variety of substances,

including cocaine, amphetamines, and prescription drugs. Her addiction has led

to numerous legal issues, including arrests for DUI and possession of cocaine.

People who use cocaine often may also have more serious side effects and

health problems, like:

 Headaches

 Convulsions and seizures

 Heart disease, heart attack, and stroke

 Mood problems

 Sexual trouble

 Lung damage

3
 HIV or hepatitis if you inject it

 Bowel decay if you swallow it

 Loss of smell, nosebleeds, runny nose, and trouble swallowing, if you

snort it

You can have intense desires for the substance and the euphoria it provides.

However, your brain will become more used to cocaine the more you take it. To

achieve the same high, you'll need to take a larger dose. This could result in a risky

addiction or overdose.

Long-term alterations in your brain's chemistry can also be brought on by

stronger, more regular dosages. Your mind and body get to depend on the

medication. You may find it more difficult to think, sleep, and remember things as a

result. It's possible that you react more slowly. You also run the danger of developing

new lung, stomach, and heart issues.

Treatment

Counseling and other types of therapy are the most common treatments for

cocaine addiction. You may need to stay in a rehabilitation center (also known as

rehab). Sessions with a trained therapist can help you make changes to your

behaviors and thought processes. No medicines are approved to treat cocaine

addiction but there are a few medication options doctors are having some success

with in-treatment.

The most important part of any treatment plan is that you give up the drug

right away. Many people who are addicted to cocaine go through a phase called

withdrawal when they first do this. Symptoms can include:

4
 Depression

 Anxiety

 Fatigue

 Trouble concentrating

 Increased hunger

 Cravings for the drug

 Nightmares

 Chills, nerve pain, muscle aches

A cocaine overdose is more difficult to treat. Physical signs include:

 Increased sweating, body temperature, or heart rate

 Trouble breathing

 Chest pain

 Nausea or vomiting

 Confusion, seizures, tremors

 Anxiety

 Panic

 Paranoia

 Hallucinations

 Delirium

An overdose often leads to a stroke or heart attack. An ER doctor will test for

those conditions and try to treat them first. They may also use medication to treat

other complications you have.

been in and out of rehab multiple times, which has caused delays and

cancellations in her work schedule. Additionally, her erratic behavior and legal

issues have made it difficult for her to find work, and she has not appeared in

a major film or television role since 2013. Despite her struggles, Lohan has been

vocal about her desire to overcome her addiction. She has sought treatment multiple

times, including stints in rehab and attendance at support group meetings. However,

her efforts have been met with mixed success, and she has continued to struggle

with addiction in recent years.

Lindsay Lohan Admits to Lying About Cocaine Use, Thriving on ‘Chaos’ in

Oprah Interview. The actress also confirms she's an "addict," defends her parents

and talks about her jail time during the sit-down, which aired Sunday night on OWN.

During an interview with Oprah Winfrey that aired Sunday night on OWN, Lindsay

Lohan admitted to lying about how many times she used cocaine. While the actress

has previously stated that she used the drug three or four times, she told Winfrey

that the actual number is more like 10-15 times. “I was terrified of being judged,” she

said, adding that she snorted but never injected the drug.

7
She also admitted, “I’m an addict,” yet insisted that her addiction is only to

alcohol. “That, in the past, was a gateway to other things for me,” she said. “I tried

cocaine with alcohol.” Lohan added that she didn’t enjoy using cocaine: “I never felt

good the next day.” But she took it because it “allowed me to drink more. It was a

party thing. People would have it, and I’d do it.” Lohan also said when she found out

she was going to jail, she first was locked up in 2010 for violating probation that

moment was “terrifying.” But subconsciously, she knew that she needed help.

“Having all the chaos around me that I was so comfortable with, I somewhere inside

knew I wanted to go to jail,” she said. “And I think that that was subconsciously being

put out there just by my actions, or lack thereof.”

She also praised her attorney, Shawn Holley, who has appeared on The

Hollywood Reporter’s list of most powerful entertainment attorneys: “She’s my family,

she’s been through a lot with me, she’s stood by me. I love her. She’s got a great

spirit and cares for me and wants what’s best for me.”

Lohan, who has been in rehab six times, says she’s clean now and takes only

vitamins along with Nexium for her acid reflux. She said that she once took Adderall

for her ADD but has since stopped because she doesn’t believe she needs it

anymore — and functions better without it. She added that it wasn’t a sudden a-ha

moment that spurred her to change her ways but more of a realization over a period

of time.

Asked if she is “addicted to chaos,” Lohan replied: “I think so. Yeah, it was a

comfortable choice to me. What was chaotic to other people in the outside looking in

was normal. There is something to be said about me learning to be comfortable with

things just being OK.”

8
Meanwhile, Lohan’s parents Dina and Michael Lohan have been accused in

the past of exploiting their daughter, but the actress denied that she felt they had

ever done such a thing. However, she did admit that she wishes certain family

problems such as her leaked phone call with her father in which she accused her

mother of doing coke (an accusation she told Winfrey was false) — hadn’t been

aired in public.

Lohan, who is currently starring in The Canyons, which hit theaters, also

made her case that she’s not the same wild child of the past several years. She said

she’s ready to prove that she is a responsible adult who can be trusted by directors,

producers and the like. “[I’m ready] to get the thing that has made me happiest my

whole life back, which is to work really hard, stay focused and prove myself,” she

said. “I have to regain trust in people, in my career, that had doubts, and I fully

respect that on their behalf. As long as I stay honest in myself and do the work I’m

willing to do and have been willing to do and am doing, then nothing can stand in my

way. I am my own worst enemy, and I know that.”

“I’m different,” the actress said when pressed by Winfrey whether that was the best

decision for her, only four days out of rehab. “I feel different. I’m in a different

headspace. I don’t want those things I wanted before.”
