Preview the Message

Preview provides a glimpse to the body of your speech, so your audience knows exactly what you will be talking about in
your speech.

To write an effective preview, you must include:


1. A thesis statement. (What is your topic?)
2. Your main points. (What are the 2 main points you will discuss in your speech?)

Writing the Body of your Speech

Write like you talk

– Use short sentences.


– Avoid unnecessary or “empty words”.
– Don't use big words.
– Sequence of ideas- logical and easily followed.

Use Concrete Words and Examples


– Concrete details keep people interested.
– Explain or illustrate your point with examples from your research.
