BSPT1-C-1 Athena Irish D. Lastimosa JULY 16, 2022 Dr. Lucila B. Diesta NSTP 112 How NURSES can be an aid QS in enhancing our community I chose the profession of nursing because of the holistic care they provide to people from womb to tomb. Nurses are an essential part of the community especially in maintaining the health of its citizens. Nurses enhance the community by promoting health and preventing the spread of diseases. The main goal of nurses in the community is to promote health by planning appropriate programs to educate and meet the needs of the people. There are numerous roles that nurses portray in the community. Doing a census of the community is one of the most important tasks of nurses because it will be the basis of the programs that can be done to promote health. It can also be used to monitor the community's overall health status. Through this, they can provide health care for the citizens. They provide healthcare to all sexes and ensure attending to the health problems of both males and females. This is important because there are differences in males’ and females' approaches when it comes to healthcare. Also providing healthcare to all ages may be more difficult because of the limitations that age imposes on people. The most vulnerable age group, the elderly, is also the same age group that has difficulties when it comes to seeking health care. Making health care more available for them by doing home visits and scheduling them for quarterly checkups in the BHC is helpful. They also keep vaccinations updated. It is essential in the community because it ensures the immunity of its citizens from different kinds of diseases. Making vaccination schedules, especially for children, is a great way to ensure proper vaccination. They sometimes do vaccination drives for annual vaccines. Family planning has also been one of the main focuses of the nurses in Barangay Health Centers, especially in the Philippines Promoting it can help with the citizens’ reproductive health by educating them on safe sex and appropriate family planning methods that they can do or use. It also helps with the overpopulation of the community. Part of their responsibilities is collaborating with essential . health teams when it comes to health programs that the community might need. It can also help with health problems that they might face, ie. an outbreak or a pandemic. Nurses are also essential in referring patients to proper healthcare facilities because community health centers are limited and some health problems may not be resolved there. Correct referral to other healthcare facilities guarantees suitable interventions for their conditions. This also means they will get the care they need ASAP “To do what nobody else will do, in a way that nobody else can, in spite of all we go through; it to be a nurse." - Rawsi Williams
