i) 3D Laser Scanner

Aim: To understand the working of 3D Laser Scanner

Equipment Name: FARO- Fusion

Make: FARO

Introduction: The FARO’s Portable Measurement Arm is a 7-axis, articulated arm with a
spherical working volume. Each joint has a rotary optical encoder. The signals from these
encoders are processed, using advanced error coding and temperature compensation
technology, and positional data is sent to the host computer using various wired and
wireless communication protocols.

1 Tube 1 6 Handle 10 Fold-Down Touch

2 Tube 2 7 7-Axis Handle Screen Controller
3 Probe (Removable) 11 USB Drive Port
4 Handle LED 8 Magnetic Button 12 SD RAM Card Port
5 Buttons 9 Status Panel 13 Base Collar
Features:

 Optional 7-Axis Availability

 Infinite Rotation for Non-Stop Measuring
 Extended-Use Battery
 Available in Four Working Volumes
 Composite Material Construction
Operating Procedure:

1. ON the main power Switch and FARO Arm switch.

2. Connect the FARO Arm with the computer and the FARO arm battery.
3. FIX the laser probe and ball probe on the FARO Arm.
4. Open the Geomagic software, go to new and create a file and start scan option.
5. Place the calibration cone on the table bed.
6. Click on calibration and select the probe specification.
7. Place the probe ball point at the center of the calibration cone.
8. Hold the green button and Move the arm in the direction as shown in the
computer screen in different axis and release the green button after the
movement is completed in certain axis or direction. Then after the whole
direction calibration is done press the red button.
9. Check whether the calibration is done successfully on the screen if not repeat the
calibration process.
10. Remove the probe and place the specimen on the table bed.
11. Click on start scanning option in software and press green button and start
scanning the specimen.
12. Bring the laser emitting head in the green section always as shown in the screen
of computer otherwise the image processing is not done successfully.
13. Press red button after the scanning is completed.
14. Do the rest refinement and the calculation in the geometry generated on the
computer screen with the help of the software.
ii) 3D Printer

Aim: To understand the working of 3D Printer

Equipment Name: uPrint SE

Make: Stratasys

Introduction: 3D printing is an additive process that builds objects one layer at a time
from the bottom up. The right technology depends on the materials, aesthetics,
mechanical properties and performance you require. Learn about the technologies
available from Stratasys and Stratasys Direct Manufacturing.

3D printing technologies from Stratasys:

Stratasys develops and manufactures two of the most versatile and widely used 3D
printing technologies available today.

FDM: FDM creates parts layer-by-layer with engineering-grade thermoplastics. FDM is

often used to build complex geometries and functional parts, including prototypes, low-
volume production pieces, manufacturing aids, and jigs and fixtures.

PolyJet: PolyJet is a 3D printing process that jets and cures thin layers of liquid
photopolymer with UV energy. It is capable of printing in 16-micron layers and in
multiple durometers and many colors for multi-material parts. PolyJet is an excellent
option for realistic, high-resolution models and prototypes, short-run injection molds
and master patterns for urethane casting.

uPrint SE:

The uPrint SE 3D printer uses FDM Technology to build in real ABSplus thermoplastic,
creating models and functional prototypes that are durable, stable and pinpoint accurate.
Use them to evaluate form, fit and function in everything from ergonomics to
manufacturing processes — right from your desktop.

The uPrint SE 3D Print Pack is everything you need to start 3D modeling:

 The uPrint SE 3D Printer

 Startup supply of materials and bases
 CatalystEX software
 WaveWash support removal system

minimum 7A dedicated circuit
WaveWash Support Cleaning System: 100-240 VAC, 50/60Hz 1200W

Steps in 3D Printing:
1. Prepare the file: Create your 3D model in CAD software, then click “print.” CatalystEX™
software converts your CAD system’s STL output into 3D model print paths, including
support structures, that guide the uPrint SE 3D Printer extrusion head.
2. Print your model: uPrint Printers use FDM Technology™ to build your 3D model and its
support material, layer by layer, from the bottom up on a removable modeling base.
3. Remove supports: Take your printed model out of the uPrint SE 3D Printer build
chamber, pop it off the modeling base and dissolve away the soluble support material
using the WaveWash Support Cleaning System.
