of the royal ballet. The royal ballet's cast divided into two forms: neang and neay
rong.
Neang is a character represents a woman who is divided into eight categories.
There are:
• Neang Ek is the highest-ranking female role. She is the embodiment of
beauty, grace, and refinement. Her costume is made of the finest silks and
brocades, and her makeup is elaborate and stylized. Her movements are slow
and graceful, and she often carries a fan or a scarf.
• Neang pi-leang is the servant of Neang Ek. she is a humble servant who is
responsible for carrying out the orders of her masters. She is often seen
carrying trays of food or water, or sweeping the floors. However, she is also
a skilled dancer and singer, and she often performs in the ballets as a
member of the chorus
• Neang Komnan is an extramarital affair. She is often portrayed as a young
woman who is married to a wealthy merchant or a high-ranking official, but
who is also attracted to another man. The tension between her two loves is
often the source of conflict in the ballet.
• Neang mae is a mother in royal ballet of Cambodia. She is typically
portrayed as a strong and nurturing figure, who is devoted to her children.
She is often seen teaching her children the traditional dances and music of
Cambodia, and she is always there to offer them support and guidance.
• Neang Kinnorei is the fifth-highest-ranking female role. She is a forest spirit
or nymph, and her costume is made of leaves and flowers, and her makeup is
made of natural pigments. Her movements are graceful and fluid, and she
often dances with animals or birds.
• Neang Neak is the sixth-highest-ranking female role. She is a snake princess
or a water spirit. Her costume is made of scales or serpent skin, and her
makeup is made of black and green pigments. Her movements are sinuous
and serpentine, and she often dances with snakes or crocodiles.
• Neang Yahkhenei is the seventh-highest-ranking female role. She is a demon
or a witch. Her costume is made of black or red fabric, and her makeup is
made of dark pigments. Her movements are wild and erratic, and she often
dances with fire or weapons.
• Neang Sovannmacha is a mermaid princess who falls in love with a human
prince. However, their love is forbidden, and they are ultimately separated.

Neay Rong is a character represents a man who is divided into eleven
categories. The first one is
• Neay Rong Ek is the highest-ranking male role. He is the male main
character or one of the major characters in a play. He usually has a pre-
eminent position as a deities, king, or prince.
• Neay Rong Bav Preav is the servant of Neay rong Ek.
• Neay Rong Sena Ek is the battalion commander or general. He works
directly under neay rong ek
• Neay Rong Pol Sena is the soldier or imperial guard work under Neak Rong
Sena Ek.
• Neay Rong Chao Ngoh is a character with memory problems and an
undesirable appearance serve as a farce
• Neay Rong Ovpuok is the father
• Neay Rong Moni Eisei is the wise sage/hermit, usually the male main
character's master
• Neay Rong Krot is an avian mythological creature
• Neay Rong Yahk an orge who serve as villains and fight with the main
character
• Neay Rong Sva is the human-like ape mythological creatures who serve
under the main character
• Neay Rong Animal the divine animals serve as various secondary characters
such as horses, deer.

Now let’s talk about the music and its instruments for royal ballet.

The musical band for the Royal Ballet of Cambodia is called a pin peat
ensemble. It is a traditional Khmer orchestra that consists of a variety of
instruments, including xylophones, drums, oboes, gongs, and others. The pin
peat ensemble plays a key role in the Royal Ballet of Cambodia, as it
provides the music that accompanies the dancers. The music is used to set
the scene, create atmosphere, and underscore the emotions of the dancers.
Vong Phleng Pin Peat or Pin Peat Musician has 34 Tracks in the Royal
Ballet, which are divided into two types. The first is the Mohoari Orchestra
and the second is the Royal Theatre.

The pin peat ensemble is an essential part of the Royal Ballet of Cambodia,
and it plays a key role in the company's performances. The music that they
play helps to bring the dances to life, and it creates a unique and
unforgettable experience for the audience.

There are some songs that play during the royal ballet performance to describe the
show

• Sathukar is a song of blessing used for propitiation and often used to


commence a performance
• Krao nai also known as santheuk knong overture of the yeak characters, a
display of power as they go into combat or battle
• Smaeu : (េស#)$ used for the introduction of a character or a group of dancers in
a scene
• Lea : (%) used to present a character's departure from the scene; leaving
the stage
• Phya deun : (ផ'េឌ$ន); also known as ponhea daeur (ព+, េដ$រ), a music piece used to
present dancers marching
• And Klom: (ក01ម) used to show the grace and beauty of a character wielding
his weapon
