NEBOSH Diploma - for Occupational Health and Safety Professionals

Course Details
On completion of the qualification, delegate will be able to:

 Understand how health and safety legislation is applied in a workplace and


the possible enforcement actions
 Identify and effectively communicate relevant health and safety information
 Advise on a range of common workplace health and safety issues
 Develop a health and safety policy strategy (including proactive safety,
Corporate Social Responsibility and the change management process)
 Contribute to a risk management strategy
 Promote a positive health and safety culture
 Develop and audit health and safety management systems
 Maintain individual and organisational health and safety competence
 Manage contractors and supply chains to ensure compliance with health and
safety standards.
Length of course
The qualification requires a minimum of 191 taught hours, plus 144 recommended
self-study hours and 140 assessment hours

Assessment Format
The qualification units are assessed in the following way:
 ND1 – Know – workplace health and safety  Assignment - workplace-based tasks together
principles with simulations and reflective statements and a
research topic
 ND2 – Do – controlling workplace health  Scenario-based case study
issues
 ND3 – Do – controlling workplace safety  Scenario-based case study
issues

Each assessment is a substantial undertaking. We anticipate that it will take you


around 60 hours to complete the ND1 assignment and 40 hours each for the ND2
and ND3 case studies. The time-period given for you to complete each assessment
reflects this:
Unit ND1: 6 weeks (30 working days)
Unit ND2: 4 weeks (20 working days)
Unit ND3: 4 weeks (20 working days)
Entry Requirements
Recommended learners have undertaken the NEBOSH General Certificate in
Occupational Health and Safety – Completed already
IIRSM
Holders of the National Diploma for Occupational Health and Safety Management
Professionals are eligible for the Member status (MIIRSM) of the Institute of Risk and
Safety Management (IIRSM
Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH)
Holders of the National Diploma for Occupational Health and Safety Management
Professionals will be eligible for Graduate Membership (Grad IOSH) of the Institution
of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH)*. This is the first step to becoming a
Chartered Health and Safety Practitioner as a Chartered Member of IOSH
(CMIOSH).

Further Study
NEBOSH offers a range of qualifications that brings success and advancement in
the chosen field.

 Diploma holders wishing to develop their environmental expertise may


consider taking the NEBOSH National/International Diploma in Environmental
Management.
 National Diploma holders wishing to use their skills overseas may consider
the NEBOSH International Diploma for Occupational Health and Safety
Management Professionals.
 In addition, NEBOSH offer specialist qualifications for Construction, Fire, Oil &
Gas and Process Industry sectors, as well as a Leadership Excellence and
Wellbeing.
