Now answer the

questions underneath
the poem.
Poetry is all about words…

Poets use words that have associations to make the

meaning of their poems clear,
e.g. Red might mean ‘anger’ or ‘danger’

This is also seen in advertising, to create a

powerful feeling about a product.
e.g. ‘Fairy Liquid’ is associated with ‘magically good’
cleaning and softness.
Look at the words and products below and
make a list of of their associations:

Angel Delight: heavenly, perfect,

delicious.

‘A la Carte’ cats Because Gourmet Cats
Come in all shapes and sizes Have a nose for the good things
And ‘A La Carte’ cats That particular taste
Have many disguises. A fine cat food brings.
But something puts them above Beef, chicken, salmon
The usual cat race Those flavours
That’s highly developed The truly superior
A La Carte taste Gourmet cat favours.

What does the name suggest about the product?

Why is the name repeated so often?
Which other words in the poem are strongly associated
with the name and idea behind the cat food?
