Desta : Today we will re-tell you about The biography of Benyamin Sueb the
unforgottable Betawi legend. Gerald Will re-tell you about orientation.

Orientation : Benyamin Sueb or familiarly called Bang Ben, is a Betawi artist,
musician and cultural actor from Indonesia. He was born in Jakarta on March 5,
1939. He was the eighth child of eight children. His father is Sukirman or
usually called Suaeb and his mother Aisyah.

Event(s) : Sueb received his basic education at the "bendungan jago" public
school, Jakarta in 1946. During grade 5 he moved to Santo Yosef Elementary
School in Bandung in 1951. Then in 1955 he returned to Jakarta to study at
Taman Madya Cikini Middle School. In 1957 he started his career in the music
division of Kodam v Jaya. Then in 1958 he continued his education at Taman
Siswa High School in Jakarta. Benyamin Sueb started working as a PPD Jakarta
bus conductor in 1959, less than a year after he left his job. then he was placed
in the Kodam v Jaya in 1959 in the division of army equipment ammunition.
After that in the same year in 1959 he married Nonie and was blessed with 5
children. Then in 1960 he attended a corporate development & management
institute course at the Jakarta bank academy but did not graduate. He then
attended basic military training at Kodam v in Jakarta in 1960. Then Benyamin
Sueb served as Head of the Kriya Jaya Regional Company Section in 1960. After
that he continued his education at a state administration institution course in
Jakarta, 1964. Benyamin Sueb just started his career as a musician and singer
in 1969 since joining the Gambang Kromong orchestra, the Mustika naga
Group. Thanks to his fame, this gave him the opportunity to become a film
actor. He starred in the films Si Doel Anak Betawi in 1972, Benyamin Si biang
kerok in 1972, Intan berduri in 1972 and many more. Then in 1973 he won the
Citra trophy for best male lead nomination through the film Intan berduri. In
1979 he divorced Nonie but reconciled again in the same year but did not last
long because in 1981 they divorced again. Then in 1983 Benyamin Sueb
remarried to Alfiah and was blessed with 4 children. Furthermore, in 1990
Benyamin Sueb founded a radio station called Bens radio.

Re-orientation Benyamin contribution to Betawi culture cannot be doubted.
Benyamin and Betawi seem to have become one unit that is difficult to
separate. He has produced more than 53 film titles and 75 music albums. This
is what makes it a legend that is so respected by the people of Indonesia,
especially the Betawi people . Benyamin Sueb died in Jakarta on 5 September
1995 due to a heart attack.
