3. Site location and Associated Parameter

The site situated as Ahmedabad. It has medium dense soil SPT value is 30 and SBC
value is 250 kN/m2 , Site wind speed is 39 and seismic zone will be zone III
4. Design Life

The Design life of the office building is 50 years

5. Material Specification

Grade of the concrete is M40 for vertical member and M30 for horizontal member.
For sub structure M30 for foundation and use Fe500 grade steel reinforcement to IS
1786-2008

Structural element Concrete grade

Slabs and beam M30

Columns M30

Footing M30

Normal weight aggregates shall be considered for all concrete works

6. Exposure & Cover Requirements

From durability requirement, exposure conditions is interior structural elements

above ground level is considered moderate, and for exterior members is
considered mild .The following nominal cover to be provide in the structural
elements

Structural Elements Nominal Cover

Slabs 20 mm

Beams 25mm

Column 40 mm

Footing 50 mm (bottom & sides), 30 mm (top)

7. Fire requirements

The building floor area is 1120 sq.m and plot area is 3040 sq.m.

Floor area index is 0.368, type of construction is Type 4 and fire resistance rating is
120 minutes, minimum beam width 20 mm and rid width of slabs 125 mm minimum
thickness of floor 125 mm, column dimensions 300 mm

Nominal Cover to meet specified period of fire resistance for continuous beam. 30
mm, slabs 25 mm, ribs 35 mm, column 40 mm
8. Serviceability requirements

Following aspects are considered in terms of serviceability: drift, deflection, crack

width

a. Drift

Following aspects are considered for drifts under wind and earthquake loads

Lateral Load Drift Limit

Wind H/500

Earthquake H/250

Limit both drift to H/500 for wind load & H/250 for seismic load
H = height of the building
Wind load drift = 34/500 =0.068
seismic load drift = 34/250 = 0.136

b. Control of Deflection:
Following limitations are considered for floor deflections:
Total long-term deflection - Span / 250
Long term deflection after non-structural components is installed - Span / 350
or 20 mm whichever less
glass facade = span/500
c. Control of crack width
Member type Crack width (mm)
Interior members protected from external 0.3
weather
External members exposed to weather 0.2
Members below ground & retaining walls 0.2
(Interior & Exterior face)

0.1 mm under aggressive conditions
