The children were waiting and excited to see Mr. Samuel’s lights.

This is
apparent when the writer states “Then all the children of Cocoa
Bottom went to see Mr. Samuel’s electric lights. They camped on the
grass bank outside his house, their lamps filled with oil, waiting for
sunset, watching the sky turn yellow, orange.” The writer uses” The
writer uses rule of three to illustrate how the children were situated
and how they spent their times waiting. The children seemed bored
as all of them had gone to Mr. Samuel’s house early and waited until
after sunset as if it was to show that they had nothing better to do.
This could also relate to the reader who is likewise waiting for Mr.
Samiel’s lights.

Nature and its many factors including its looks, feels and colors were
described to show nature’s beauty before the electricity was
switched on. This is illustrated when the writer states “waiting for
sunset watching the sky turn yellow, orange.…The kling-klings
swooped in from the hills, congregating in the orange trees. A breeze
coming home from sea held its breath;” The writer uses
personification to illustrate the feeling of the breeze as a sea “held its
breath”. The writer also describes the sunset as turning yellow and
orange to signify nature’s change and adaptation as birds swoop in
from the hills and congregating in beautiful orange trees. The writer
describes the colors to paint a picture in the readers mind which
engages and interests the reader.

Mr. Samuel and the people of cocoa bottom express their joy very
clearly as the electricity was switched on. This is proven when the
writer states “Light! Marvelous light! And then the breeze rose up
from above the trees, swelling and swelling into a wind such that the
long grass bent forward stretching across the bank like so many
bowed heads. And a voice in the wind whispered: Is there one among
us to record this moment?” The writer uses repetition to express how
overjoyed Mr. Samuel is at the sight of light and exclamation points
are also used to show how electrified both he and the light are. There
was also a distant voice asking anyone to record the moment as if it
was a once in a lifetime moment for Cocoa bottom. The writer
expertly illustrates the joy of the people to the reader which
accurately shows the reader the emotion of the people of cocoa
bottom. This gives the reader a nice warm feeling and a good
understanding of the nature of the people of cocoa bottom after the
electricity was switched on.

Good morning to you all, Hope school is going well for you guys! I’m
here to talk to you about making the world a better place. I’m not
here to berate. I’m not here to discipline you. Other people like to
talk like they are higher than you. That’s not what I am doing today.
I’m here to talk to you about manners and how you should treat
others. Respect is the Key to a better world. If everyone respects one
another this will stop any conflict or war and replace it with peace.
We can work as a team to solve various problems such as global
warming and climate change.

Most of you have heard about prophet Mohammed. The greatest

man of all time. I know some of you here aren’t Muslim and even if
you don’t believe the existence of prophet Mohammed you will
believe that according to Islam, His way of life is the best. Prophet
Mohammed respected and treated others kindly despite him not
getting this respect in return.

There is a story that depicts the prophet walking down the street. A
small group of people would dump garbage on him as he walked by.
He didn’t curse, he didn’t fight back like your fathers probably taught
you to. He ignored it.

This kept going on for weeks and weeks and weeks until the prophet
noticed that one day they were missing. He went around town,
asking questions and he found out that one of them was sick. He
visited the ill man who was shocked as he told Mohammed that he
was the only person who visited him. Can you believe that? Not his
mother! Not his father! Not his brothers! Not even the people
dumping the garbage with him were there! You know who showed
up? The man who was mistreated. Right then and there the man
converted to Islam.

This should be a lesson to you all. If you treat someone with respect
and they don’t show it back just wait. Wait and once they realize it,
they will have no choice but to respect you back once they are
singled out for their actions.

Many people fight fire with fire. If someone insults you, insult him
back if someone hits you, hit him back. This ideology is usually taught
by a parent, this is why it’s up to you to change that. You need to
teach your kids otherwise. A child is influenced by his parents more
than anyone else.

I remember going to pick up my son from school, I walked in and

asked where he was. “He’s in detention, He got in a fight again” His
teacher said. My first reaction wasn’t disappointment, it was shock. I
thought “what do you mean again? When did it happen the first
time, why didn’t I find out?” My son later explained that his friends
told him to stand up for himself. I didn’t shout at my son. I didn’t hit
him. I respected him for taking a chance at a person he looked up to
and took their advice. I then explained that he should’ve ignored any
taunts and just carried on.

I later found out that it was his 9th fight and he had just graduated
from high school having never fought again since the day I advised
him not to. He has actually made friends with 7 out of the 9 people
who fought as they learnt to respect him.
A study in hack brew, Indiana showed that 10 people who absolutely
despised each other. They hated each other! No 10 people were ever
more hateful of the other 9. These 10 people worked on a project
together anonymously through messages and such. The people
running the study told them that they were messaging important
people and should show respect. Each of them did so accordingly.

Once they had found out who they were working with they
immediately clapped their hands and one laughed while saying “you
take the best out of the worst group of enemies and they become
friends”. If you think the person who bumped into you on purpose
will never be forgiven and you swear to yourself that you’ll hold a
grudge just keep this story in mind.

Judging by the looks on your faces I think you’ve all had a good time
listening to my talk. I do hope you’ll remember these words
tomorrow, Next week, Next month, Next year and for the rest of your
lives. It only takes a few people to be infected for a virus to spread. So
spread the virus of respect. Thank you all.
