2.1 VERIFY MB VERSION

Note: This check is only required on laser light sources with external coolers.

Your Monitoring Board (MB) needs to contain a firmware version > 3.10. Verifying your MB firmware
version can be done by reading out the MB logs (see below).

MB boards with version 3.10 or lower cannot be upgraded and require a new board. Please contact
your local helpdesk to request both MB board and MCB boot flash dongle.

1A) EXTRACTING LOG FILES FROM THE MONITORING BOARD

USB memory stick method

- Use an empty USB memory stick, insert it to the USB port of the MB. Two minutes later the log
file will be finished copying and the memory stick can be removed again.

- On your disk drive you will now find the ‘notice-monitor.log’ file. The ‘notice-monitor.log’ file
without any timestamp in the filename contains the most recent logs.

1B) EXTRACTING LOG FILES FROM THE MONITORING BOARD

FTP method

- Connect the MB-LAN port to your PC via an ethernet cable.

In case there is already a network cable attached to the LAN port, you can remove it and
connect your own instead.

- Configure the IP address of your PC and the MB to the same network range.
First generation of the LLU kit has MB’s with following network settings on board:

IP MB: 192.168.100.9
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

Latest generation of the LLU kit has the following network settings pre-configured on the MB:

IP MB: 192.168.254.249
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

The fastest way to determine which one you have is to try out both settings and perform a ping
to above IP address.

Host: MB IP address, Username: SERVICE, Password: C1n!@NiC,

Port (default value is 21).

Click the ‘Quickconnect’ button for connection.

- Select the log folder to open the log directory.

- Select and double-click the ‘notice-monitor.log’ file then copy and transfer it to your specific
download directory. The ‘notice-monitor.log’ file without any timestamp in the file name
contains the most recent logs.

2) VERIFYING THE MB FIRMWARE VERSION FROM THE LOG FILE

Open the ‘notice-monitor.log’ file and scroll to the bottom of the document. The
‘monitorAppVersion’ will tell you the current firmware version of the MB.

3. UPDATE PROCEDURE
It is important to follow the correct order of procedure as described in this chapter. Not doing so
can cause a failure on the update.

3.1 REPLACE MB (OPTIONAL)

Please see chapter 2.1 to determine if a new MB board needs to be installed.

3.2 REPLACE CCB (OPTIONAL)

Please see chapter 2.2 to determine if a new CCB board needs to be installed.

3.3 UPDATE MB TO V3.34 OR HIGHER

- Connect the MB-LAN port to your PC via an ethernet cable. In case there is already a network
cable attached to the LAN port, you can remove it and connect your own instead.

Click the ‘Quickconnect’ button for connection.

www.cinionic.com 11
- Extract the upgrade package, the actual file is named “ALPD4.0_MONITOR_UPDATE_...”
- Drag the update file from your PC into the ‘update’ directory. The update of the MB will start
automatically and completed within a few minutes. The indication LED on the MB will show you
when the update has finished.
- Reboot the system.

Note:

- If nothing happens when you drag the file to the ‘update’ directory, most likely the path
where your update file is located is too long. Simply copy the update file to a shorter path on
your computer and try again.
- You only have read and upload access rights to the MB ‘update’ folder.
- Check again the ‘notice-monitor’ log file to verify if the update was successful.
