Step 2: Get your documents certied

It’s important to remember to have every document ‘certied’. This means getting copies of all the relevant
pages in each document veried and signed by someone from the list below. They’ll conrm that the
photograph of you is a reasonable likeness and that the copy of your Proof of Identity and Proof of
Residential Address match the original documents. We must be able to read your personal details and see
your face clearly.

Finding a suitable certier

The person certifying your documents must be from the following list:

Acceptable certiers

1 A member from a professional body:

• A notary, lawyer, solicitor or barrister.
• An accountant or auditor.
• The certier must be a member of a recognised professional body.
2 The Local Authority where you are resident:
• A local authority or municipal council that provides certication services.
3 Our oce:
• If you come over with the original paper documents to our oce, we can examine them, make
copies and certify them ourselves, for free!
• We can also certify a document if it comes with a QR code. Some authorities today issue
electronic certicates with a QR code instead of issuing a paper certicate. By means of this QR
code we can connect to the authority’s website and check its authenticity. In that case, we can
certify the document ourselves.
