Research topic (confirmed): An investigation on SOFL sophomores’ difficulties in learning
vocabulary in English Reading skills II.
Objectives (confirmed): To identify what difficulties Sofl students get during learning
English vocabulary in Reading skills 2. Then, find the causes of the problem and suggesting
some methods to help students learn vocabulary effectively.

 What difficulties do SOFL sophomores at HUST encounter when learning vocabulary
through the Reading II module?
 How can SOFL sophomores at HUST improve their English vocabulary acquisition
through the Reading II module?

Observation plan
1. Choose a site: a class studying Reading II in Sofl
2. Choose a time period to cover: Each member in group may have their own schedule, we
will consider the schedule of the sophomores and choose a class that most of us can join.
3. Decide whether to observe continuously or undertake spot counts: we will join to study
together with students’ lesson, so observing continuously is more suitable.
4. Decide on the observation schedule: depending on the schedule of sophomores, we will
choose a class at a certain time.
5. Decide what to observe: Observe the process of the reading lesson: What activities happen;
Before the new lessons, do the lecturers review the vocabulary of previous lessons; How do
they complete the vocabulary task; Do all students get struggle or not; What skills do they use
to do the tasks when they do not know new words; …
We will observe in the class through: Group activities; Individual activities; and Answering
activities
