The bar chart reveals the
proportion of purchasing coffee
as well as going to café for a
beverage in five cities of Australia
four weeks ago.

From the chart, the percentage

of coffee or tea bought from
cafés occupied over 55% except
in Adelaide with 49%. In
Melbourne, there was a large
number of people to have drinks
at cafés with the highest rate at
63%

The next one is the amount of instant coffee that was bought. The
consumer’s need for it was not low just after the demand for drinks at
coffeehouses. Most of the figures showed that over 45% of this kind of
coffee was consumed and gained 52% in Hobart.

The last one is the unused coffee. Compared with the other, it had the
lowest percentage. In Brisbane, people bought fresh coffee less than the
four other cities – 33%. However, more than 40% of people used it,
especially in Sydney with 43%

In conclusion, buying coffee or tea from coffee shops was the most
popular habit compared with the others. Additionally, getting instant
coffee seems to have been partial to people due to the low percentages.

This line graph indicates the
number of tourists visiting a
Caribbean island and where they
stayed from 2010 to 2017

It stood at 0.25 million visitors

staying on Caribbean island by
cruise ships in 2010 which was
lower than those paying a visit
on the island with 0.75 million.
Tourists staying on cruise ships
went up to 0. 5 million in 2011
and suddenly decreased to 0.25
million. However, since 2013,
there was an upward trend in
the number of tourists and
reached a peak at 2 million in
2017.

The number of visitors staying on the island was quite stable. The figure
remains unchanged from 2010 to 2011. Then, it rocketed to 1,5 million in 2013.
The rate had no change with 1.5 million throughout 3 years. Visitors who
stayed on the island in 2016 were less 0.25 million than those in 2015, then,
the figure went back to 1.5 million in 2017.

In general, the total number of tourists visiting the Caribbean only had an
upward trend. There were more and more visitors staying on cruise ships.

The given table illustrates the
average quantities of three kinds
of cereals sold in tonnes and the
line graph indicates the average
price of these products in England
and Wales throughout eight
months from January to August in
2014.

It is clear that the cost and

quantities of Wheat, Barley, and
Oats witnessed fluctuations in
their figures. However, Wheat
experienced the most numerous
quantities and money.

According to the line graph, wheat was by far the

costliest cereal from January to June. It stood at £160
and reached a peak at £170 in April. Then, the price
had a downward trend and got £140 in July. Barley’s
cost fluctuated between £136 and £142 and gradually
fell to £128 in July. Oats was the cheapest selection
due to its cost being under £130 from January to June.
Then it sharply increased to £142 in July and suddenly
fell to £100 at the end of July.

The table shows the quantities of these cereals sold

in tonnes. The best-selling option was wheat. It
occupied the largest number which was over 30,000 in
May and with the skyrocketing quantity at 163,000 in
March. Oats, which had the lowest data, were never
over 3,000 tonnes compared to the bottom of barley
(11,300 tonnes ).

The pie chart illustrates the
proportional government
spending on arts, while the bar
graph depicts the number of
people participating in arts
events in 1995 and 2005.

Overall, the government seems

to have balanced the proportion
between culture and education
with the same percentage in
music and theatre as well as
visual arts and literature. In
addition, in 2005, there were
more people who tended to take
part in arts events than in 1995.

According to the pie chart, in 2005, there was a

significant change among music, theatre and
visual arts. While music and visual arts were
given less impulse, theatre and literature
increased their proportion. In 1995, just under a
half, music occupied the largest proportion.
However, in 2005, it had the same as a theatre
with nearly a third.

It can be observed that most people

participated in arts events in 2005 more than in
1995, except visual arts. They seem to have had
the pleasure of music as the figure shows that it
had the highest number (150,000). As
mentioned, visual arts was less interested than
in 1995 (50,000) with the decrease to nearly
49,000.

2025.
The bar chart illustrates the
percentage of five different
industries in Country B's
economy: throughout 10 years
from 2005 to 2015 and a
prediction for 2025.

It can be easily observed that

finance and manufacturing are
two opposite sites. While
finance had an upward
tendency, manufacturing
witnessed a downward trend.
Stood at 31%, finance went up
to 37% in 2015 and is predicted
to be over 40% on in ten years
time. In contrast, manufacturing
decreased from 21% to 15% ( in
2015) and is considered even
10% lower in 2025.

On the other hand, food processing, tourism and oil, coal and gas had the same
feature that the future data is at the same rate as one of the past years.
Compared to 2005, food processing and fuel percentage remained unchanged in
2025 10% and 26% respectively. However, oil, coal and gas were higher than food
processing with 31% in 2015, being over 1.5 times higher than food processing.
Tourism with 21% in 2015 is predicted to be stable in 2025 which is lower than its
initial percentage at 26%.

Overall, finance and manufacturing had an opposite tendency throughout 20

years. Unlike tourism, food processing, and the fuel industry seem to have up-
and-down features.

The bar graph illustrates how water is daily consumed in an American home in
gallons.

According to the data, a huge amount of water, provided for baths, the wash for
clothes, flushes for toilets as well as leakage is more used without conservation
than saving. When uneconomically used, 20 gallons of water is consumed for
cleaning a toilet and 10 gallons for leaking which are double compared to the
quantity in conservation methods. With more conservation in use, 10 gallons of
water is used for taking a shower and 11 gallons for washing clothes are high in
the opposite methods that 13 and 15 gallons respectively.

Instead of having the disproportion as the others between the two opposite
methods, the washing for dishes, the use of faucets and other uses are at the
same rate. A little amount of water is used in a dishwasher with 1 gallon and
other activities with 2 gallons. Much higher used than two of aforementioned
usage, using faucets consume 11 gallons of water.

Overall, giving the toilet a flush makes use of prodigal methods rather than
having the machine-washed dishes. Using faucets as well as washing machines
seem to be the most saving activity.

The bar chart illustrates the live’s satisfaction in some countries through a 10
point scale, while the pie chart depicts some factors that affect people’s need to
migrate.

Overall, Sweden and Australia seem to be enviable lands with the highest
proportion. In addition, the factor that accounted for the largest migration
depends on work.

As can be seen from the bar chart, the UK stood at the lowest rank with 7
points, which were below the highest mark of Sweden and Australia: 9.1.
Respectively, Switzerland, USA and Canada were also higher than the UK in
proportional to the given data: 7.5, 8.1, and 8.5 points.

Moving on, statistically, 48 percent of people wanted to migrate because of

occupancy reasons that occupied the highest percentage. In contrast, only 2
percent was intended for adventure. The second highest factor of migration
was based on in which the family settled down. Between 10 percent and 20
percent, the reasons for studying as well as having a better life were not the top
priority to migrate.

GRAPH 8

The bar chart shows the causes of paying a visit, whereas the pie chart depicts
some major problems in terms of public travel through statistical data in 2019.

Overall, travelling to work accounted for the highest proportion while visiting
relatives or friends was less concerned. Additionally, the most potential issue
that can occur in common fare is about the cost.

According to the bar chart, standing at 49 percent, travel to and from work was
the highest demand for moving. About the private motive, it occupied 19
percent, which was a bit higher than going shopping for 16 percent. Following
the need for entertainment was rather low with 10 percent for recreation was
the least concern, visiting either friends or relatives with 6 percent.

As can be seen from the pie chart, almost all travellers paid attention to the cost
of traveling that accounted for 36 percent. Ranging in a nearly 20 percent zone,
the safety concerns, drivers as well as congestion in highways was relatively high
respectively 19, 17 and 14 percent. However, less than 10 percent people care for
the space for pedestrians, and public transports assessment.

PAGE 28
GRAPH 9

The two pie charts depict the way Germans and Nigerian city-
dwellers get their first news from 5 sources per week.

Overall, while Germans intend to receive their first news

through newspapers at most, Nigerians prefer to get it from
televisions. This information was obtained from a variety of
sources, with the lowest figure coming from friends and family.

According to the first chart, it is obviously observed that Germans get their
news from newspapers at the highest rate (43%), which is nearly three times
higher than in Nigeria. Following that, 30% of Germans get their first news from
television, which is three times more than from radio. The Internet attracts 11%
more people in Germany than other sources, which have only 4%.

Moving onto the second chart, Nigerian urbanites catch up with their first news
through television with the outnumbered percentage (63%), which is double
compared to this in Germany. There are 22% of Nigerians who hear their first
news through the radio, and sandwich between these, and 13% get it from the
newspaper, which is higher than the two only occupying 1% are the internet,
and friends and family.

ESSAY 8
Write an essay of at least 300 words on the following topic:
Some people think that success in foreign language learning depends largely on the
learner’s aptitude. Others think otherwise, claiming that it depends mostly on the
learner’s hard work. Discuss both views and give your own opinion. Give reasons for
your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or
experience.

There are two opposite thoughts toward how

successfully people learn a foreign language: one
believes in the learner's talent and the other in their
perseverance Perspectively, it is lucky for those whose
abilities are better than the normal; however, learners
whose luck relies on their attempt to use another
language are commendable. This essay will point out
my idea about this issue.

On the one hand, it is undeniable that if we have a

gift for acquiring a new language, the process of
learning becomes much easier. First of all, it depends
on the endowments of learners. Similar to researching
some subjects, studying a foreign language is
effortless for the higher ability and they flexibly adjust
to the multi-language environment. Not only can they
learn their mother tongue, but also practice a new
foreign language. Furthermore, concerning half-blood
children, they can use alternatively their mother’s and
father’s national language or even the one in which
they are settling down. They can speak out or think
rapidly without any pondering or shilly-shally, and put
little effort into pronouncing or understanding the
language.

PAGE 48
ESSAY 8
On the other hand, learning a different language is
miserably hard and demands perseverance to
pursue. At first, it is rather knotty to grasp a foreign
language. Learners are inclined to imitate the native
speakers or practise how to pronounce, read and
gradually get accustomed to speaking by
themselves. It seems to be an obsession with
reading and speaking a new language that the
lower gifted students find it difficult to handle the
whole long reading test, let alone read a book with
the language. Nevertheless, if they are determined
enough to learn or passionate about a master of
language, they can spend more time practising,
being wrapped up in their work with plenty of
documents to improve their shortcoming skills.

All in all, not only can language learners have the

talent towards it but the diligence also to take up.
Besides looking up to the higher abilities’ aptitude,
having an inquiring mind like learners with their
hard work is useful to improve our language skills.
But if either the talent is complacent and does not
make any effort or the hard-working person is fed
up with learning, everything they have obtained
seems to be meaningless.
