of education no can lead a good life. Teaching and learning are the
important element in education. The teacher use different approaches
and substantial to teach their students and their active learning. With the
passage of time, altered methods and techniques are entered in the field
of education and teacher use different kind of aids to make effective
learning. Visual aids arouse the interest of learners and help the teachers
to explain the concepts easily. Visual aids are those instructional aids
which are used in the classroom to encourage students learning process.
According to Burton “Visual aids are those sensory objects or images
which initiate or stimulate and support learning”. Kinder, S. James;
describe visual aids as “Visual aids are any devices which can be used to
make the learning experience more real, more accurate and more
active”.
Visual aids are important in education system. Visual aids are those
devices which are used in classrooms to encourage students learning
process and make it easier and interesting. Visual aids are the best tool
for making teaching effective and the best dissemination of knowledge.
Research of Cuban (2001) indicated the psychology of visual aids as
under, 1% of what is learned is from the sense of TASTE, 1.5% of what
is learned is from the sense of TOUCH, 3.5% of what is learned is from
the logic of SMELL, 11% of what is educated is from the logic of
HEARING and 83% of what is learned is from the sense of SIGHT.
Also people generally remember, 10% of what they READ, 20% of what
they HEAR, 30% of what they SEE, 50% of what they HEAR and SEE,
70% of what they SAY and 90% of what they SAY as they DO a thing.
So there is no doubt that technical devices have greater impact and
dynamic informative system.
Significance of the Research

Visual aids are the devices that help the teacher to clarify, establish, and correlate
and co-ordinate precise conceptions, understandings and appreciations and support
him to make learning more actual, active, motivating, encouraging, significant and
glowing. Following are the significances of our research,

 Every individual has the tendency to forget. Proper use of visual

aids helps to retain more concept permanently.
 Students can study well when they are inspired properly through
different visual aids.
 Visual aids grow the accurate image when the students see and
hear properly.
 Visual aids provide complete example for conceptual thinking.
 Visual aids create the environment of interest for the students.
 Visual aids helps to increase the vocabulary of the students.
 Visual aids helps the teacher to get sometime and make learning
permanent.

Visual Aid Definition

What are visual aids? Well, simply put, visual aids are things that your
listening can look at while you give your speech or presentation. Visual
aid mainly appeals to the audience’s vision more than any other sensory
organ.
Types of visual aids
 Poster : displays gr Charts drawing Photos and more.
 Handout : Give to Each member of audince
 Graph: Line bar –shows information over time of compares
 Chart: Pie flow-- shows information organized into chart
 Video: use short clips to show moving image.
 Photograps: Use to enhance an image or concept
 Powerpoint Presentation: use to display multiple image one
at a time.

You save time on your presentation.

When presenting, time is of the essence. So, you can effectively reduce
your presentation time if you have useful visual aids, and use them
properly. Would you prefer to go on and on for minutes about a topic
when you can cut your speech down by inserting a few images or videos?

The importance of using visuals in giving a presentation

Visual aids in presentations are invaluable to both you and the

audience you hope to enlighten. They make the job way easier for
you, and the audience leaves feeling like they learned something.
Apart from their time-saving abilities, here are some reasons why
you need to incorporate visual aids in your presentations:
 Visual aids can help your audience retain the information long-
term.

 The human brain processes images faster than text, so visuals

make us understand things faster

 Using visual aids makes your presentations more enjoyable,

interactive, and memorable

 Visual aids help your audience connect and relate with you better

 Presentations with visual aids are less likely to be misunderstood

or misrepresented. They are usually easier to understand and leave
little room for confusion

 Visual aids are great for people with learning disabilities

 Visual aids act as key cards and pointers for the presenter and help
you keep track of what you’re saying

Preparing Visual Aids

Once your presentation is complete, begin to identify the information
you can present visually. Keep in mind that the fundamental purpose for
visuals is to help the audience understand your message. This section
will address what to present and how to design it. Listed below are some
suggestions of information categories that can be effectively
communicated as a visual:
Research
 Title of presentation and authors
 Statement of the purpose or hypothesis
 A list of the essential steps in the methods
 Graphs, tables, and figures that show the major findings
 Clinical photographs or diagrams that illustrate key points or help
explain content
 Summary of the conclusions

Clinical Vignette
 Title of presentation and authors
 Essentials of the case presentation (history, physical examination,
investigations)
 Clinical photographs demonstrating physical examination findings
 Important milestones in the patient's progress
 Key clinical decision points
 Lessons learned

In the past, it was customary to hire a professional artist to prepare

visuals. These artists are located in the hospital or university's graphic
arts department and will produce the visuals for a fee (usually charged to
the department or training program). While the product is expertly done,
it is expensive and time-consuming. Since the proliferation of personal
computers and graphic arts applications, most physicians are capable of
preparing their own visuals. If you have access to a personal computer
and a graphics program like Power Point or Harvard Graphics, you can
produce quality graphics, particularly after reviewing the following
sections. If you have never used these applications, you may require
some instruction, but you can easily master the necessary skills. The
following guidelines will assist you in producing high-quality, effective
visuals.
The ideas for speech topics using visual aids.
 Use a picture or image that closely represents the topic. A one-
hundred-dollar note can suggest topics revolving around money
and finances

 Use a chart showing trends or statistics that your audience finds

appealing. You can use popular sayings or quotes to generate
topics your audience can relate to.

 Newspaper headlines on related issues can be good starters for

opinion-based topics.

The benefits of presenting using a flipchart.

Nowadays, everybody seems to be only interested in making

presentations that are powered by computer-generated slide decks.
However, the flip chart has its charm. Since most presentations consist
of less than ten people, flip charts can be a refreshing change to the
standard slide deck. Moreover, flipchart does not require electricity. No
electricity and no software means less of those last-minute hick-ups.
Advantages of Using Visual Aids
Clarity - By using visual aids in your speeches, you often will make it
easer for listeners to understand exactly what you are trying to
communicate.

Interest - The interest generated by visual images is so strong that

visual aids are not used routinely in many areas, not just
speechmaking.Retention -Visual images stay with us longer than
verbal ones. We’ve all hard that words can “go in one ear and out the
other.” Visual images tend to last.

Stage Fright Reduction – Visual aids heighten audience interest, shift

attention away from the speaker, and give the speaker greater confidence
in the speech as a whole.

Conclusion
The visual aid definition is very clear on how much impact using visual
aids in public speaking has on an audience. With a great selection of
visual aids, you can transform your presentations into a pleasant
experience that you and your audience will always look forward to
