Islam And Innovations:

Step by step on how to get real and stop making opinions,
reasons and excuses.

Let’s start from basics

Iman’s pillar is to believe in Allah, his Angels, his books, his messengers, the judgement Day
and Qabar. If there is anyone who doesn’t believe or oppose in one of this, is out of the fold
Islam.

Muslim take shariah and knowledge only from Qur’an and authentic Hadith. And the Fatwas
made by scholars from Qur’an and Hadith are to be followed. Not Fatwas made by someone
else , who share their own opinions.

Let’s look at few hadiths;

Aishah narrated that:
The Messenger of Allah (‫ )ﷺ‬said: "Whoever innovates something in this matter of ours (i.e. Islam)
that is not part of it, will have it rejected."
ٍ ْ‫و‬..‫رَّحْ َم ِن ب ِْن َع‬. ‫ ُم َح َّم ُد ب ُْن ُع ْث َمانَ ْالع ُْث َمانِ ُّي َح َّدثَنَا ِإ ْب َرا ِهي ُم ب ُْن َس ْع ِد ب ِْن ِإ ْب َرا ِهي َم ب ِْن َع ْب ِد ال‬، َ‫َح َّدثَنَا َأبُو َمرْ َوان‬
،‫ف‬
َ ‫ د‬.ْ‫" َم ْن َأح‬  ‫ا َل‬..َ‫لم ـ ق‬..‫ه وس‬..‫لى هللا علي‬..‫ َأ َّن َرسُو َل هَّللا ِ ـ ص‬،َ‫ ع َْن عَاِئ َشة‬،‫اس ِم ب ِْن ُم َح َّم ٍد‬
‫َث فِي‬ ِ َ‫ ع َِن ْالق‬،‫ع َْن َأبِي ِه‬
" ‫ْس ِم ْنهُ فَهُ َو َر ٌّد‬ َ ‫َأ ْم ِرنَا هَ َذا َما لَي‬

It was narrated that Jabir bin 'Abdullah said:

"In his Khutbah the Messenger of Allah (‫ )ﷺ‬used to praise Allah as He deserves to be praised, then
he would say: 'Whomsoever Allah (SWT) guides, none can lead him astray, and whomsoever Allah
sends astray, none can guide. The truest of word is the Book of Allah and best of guidance is the
guidance of Muhammad. The worst of things are those that are newly invented; every newly-
invented thing is an innovation and every innovation is going astray, and every going astray is in the
Fire.' Then he said: 'The Hour and I have been sent like these two.' Whenever he mentioned the
Hour, his cheeks would turn red, and he would raise his voice and become angry, as if he were
warning of an approaching army and saying: 'An army is coming to attack you in the morning, or in
the evening!' (Then he said): 'Whoever leaves behind wealth, it is for his family, and whoever leaves
behind a debt or dependents, then these are my responsibility, and I am the most entitled to take
care of the believers.'"
Innovations means ‘Bid’ah’ which means newly invented things which are not mentioned in
Qur’an and Sahih Hadith
There are some neutral peoples who know that this thing is not in the Qur’an and Hadith,but they
say it is a good thing and not a bad thing.
They are trying to say that there are two types of Bid'ah,Good Bid’ah and Bad Bid’ah. But the
hadith clearly mentions,”Every (every) innovation leads to hellfire”!

Some of many Bid’ah which many muslims have normalised as follows:

1.Dua after every obligatory prayer
2.Celebrating the prophets birthday
3.A girl covering her hair when the adhan
4.Celebrating 40 day anniversary for a dead person
5.Reciting the quran for the dead (does not benefit them)
6.Celebrating death anniversaries for dead “saints”

The points mentioned up there are just few which are common these days. And these practices
are not mention in Sahih hadith (Sub Han Allah).
If our Prophet (S.A.W) and Sahabas didn’t do it, who are we trying to compete with? Then ask
ourselves is that right.

Narrated Anas:
The Prophet (‫ )ﷺ‬said, "Some of my companions will come to me at my Lake Fount, and after I
recognize them, they will then be taken away from me, whereupon I will say, 'My companions!' Then
it will be said, 'You do not know what they innovated (new things) in the religion after you."

ِ ‫ َح َّد َث َنا َع ْب ُد ْال َع ِز‬S، ٌ‫ َح َّد َث َنا وُ َهيْب‬،‫َح َّد َث َنا مُسْ لِ ُم بْنُ ِإب َْراهِي َم‬
‫ا‬SS‫ َف َيقُو ُل الَ َت ْد ِري َم‬.‫ َفَأقُو ُل َأصْ َح ِابي‬،‫اخ ُتلِجُوا ُدونِي‬
ْ ‫ َح َّتى َع َر ْف ُت ُه ُم‬،‫ض‬ َ ‫لَ َي ِردَ نَّ َعلَىَّ َناسٌ مِنْ َأصْ َح ِابي ْال َح ْو‬
." ‫َأحْ دَ ُثوا َبعْ دَ َك‬

Narrated Irbad ibn Sariyah:
AbdurRahman ibn Amr as-Sulami and Hujr ibn Hujr said: We came to Irbad ibn Sariyah who was
among those about whom the following verse was revealed: "Nor (is there blame) on those who
come to thee to be provided with mounts, and when thou saidst: "I can find no mounts for you."
We greeted him and said: We have come to see you to give healing and obtain benefit from you.
Al-Irbad said: One day the Messenger of Allah (‫ )ﷺ‬led us in prayer, then faced us and gave us a
lengthy exhortation at which the eyes shed tears and the hearts were afraid.
A man said: Messenger of Allah! It seems as if it were a farewell exhortation, so what injunction do
you give us?
He then said: I enjoin you to fear Allah, and to hear and obey even if it be an Abyssinian slave, for
those of you who live after me will see great disagreement. You must then follow my sunnah and
that of the rightly-guided caliphs. Hold to it and stick fast to it. Avoid novelties, for every novelty is an
innovation, and every innovation is an error.

‫ ِذ‬S‫ا ِبال َّن َوا ِج‬SS‫وا َعلَ ْي َه‬S‫ض‬ ُّ ‫ِين َت َم َّس ُكوا ِب َها َو َع‬ َ ‫ َو ُس َّن ِة ْال ُخلَ َفا ِء ْال َم ْه ِدي‬S‫اخ ِتالَ ًفا َك ِثيرً ا َف َعلَ ْي ُك ْم ِب ُس َّن ِتي‬
َ ‫ِّين الرَّ اشِ د‬ ْ ‫َف َس َي َرى‬
. " ‫ضالَلَ ٌة‬ َ ‫ُور َفِإنَّ ُك َّل مُحْ دَ َث ٍة ِب ْد َع ٌة َو ُك َّل ِب ْد َع ٍة‬ ‫َو يَّا ُك ْم َومُحْ دَ َثا ِ ُأل‬
ِ ‫تا م‬ ‫ِإ‬
Grade:  Sahih (Al-Albani)

Narrated Aisha:
Allah's Messenger (‫ )ﷺ‬said, "If somebody innovates something which is not in harmony with the
principles of our religion, that thing is rejected."

‫ت‬ ِ َ‫ ع َِن ْالق‬،‫ ع َْن َأبِي ِه‬،‫ َح َّدثَنَا ِإ ْب َرا ِهي ُم ب ُْن َس ْع ٍد‬، ُ‫َح َّدثَنَا يَ ْعقُوب‬
َ ‫ا لَي‬..‫ َذا َم‬.َ‫ا ه‬..َ‫َث فِي َأ ْم ِرن‬
‫ ُد هَّللا ِ ب ُْن‬.‫ َر َواهُ َع ْب‬." ‫ َو َر ٌّد‬.ُ‫ ِه فَه‬.‫ْس فِي‬ َ ‫ د‬.ْ‫" َم ْن َأح‬  ‫ وسلم‬.‫قَا َل َرسُو ُل هَّللا ِ صلى هللا عليه‬
.‫اح ِد ب ُْن َأبِي عَوْ ٍن ع َْن َس ْع ِد ب ِْن ِإ ْب َرا ِهي َم‬
ِ ‫َج ْعفَ ٍر ْال َم ْخ َر ِم ُّي َو َع ْب ُد ْال َو‬

Reference  : Sahih al-Bukhari 2697

Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri added that the Prophet (‫ )ﷺ‬further said:

"I will say those people are from me. It will be said, 'You do not know what changes and new things
they did after you.' Then I will say, 'Far removed (from mercy), far removed (from mercy), those who
changed (the religion) after me!"

ُ ‫ َفقُ ْل‬،ً‫ ْهال‬S ‫ت َس‬ ٍ ‫از ٍم َف َسم َِعنِي ال ُّنعْ َمانُ بْنُ َأ ِبي َعي‬ ‫َأ‬
ِ ‫َقا َل بُو َح‬
‫ دَ َك‬S ْ‫ َّدلُوا َبع‬S‫ا َب‬SS‫ َف ُي َقا ُل ِإ َّن َك الَ َت ْد ِري َم‬.‫" ِإ َّن ُه ْم ِم ِّني‬  ‫ َعلَى َأ ِبي َسعِي ٍد ْال ُخ ْد ِريِّ لَ َسمِعْ ُت ُه َي ِزي ُد فِي ِه َقا َل‬،‫َوَأ َنا َأ ْش َه ُد‬
." ‫َفَأقُو ُل سُحْ ًقا سُحْ ًقا لِ َمنْ َب َّد َل َبعْ دِي‬
