REASONS FOR NOMINATION/AWARD CRITERIA

When making your nomination, please describe how the nominee exemplifies the
award criteria. Please be as specific and as thorough as possible.

How long and in what capacity have you known the nominee? How has your
nominee specifically initiated or accomplished something that sets them apart
from others in the field?

I’ve known Amy Vruno for 8 years, in that time she was the successful director of
WIN, a regional lead for the IAF, a re-organizer of the Transportation Union locals
throughout the south, and finally the leader of the IAF rebel group.

Amy is a very accomplished organizer, but what truly sets her apart is the way she
has carefully navigated the 9 organizations that left the IAF through a process of
self-identification and development. That she was able to do this without rancor
or bitterness makes it shine all the brighter.

In what way is the nominee’s activity at the core of Community Change’s values
as articulated in the guidelines for the Emerging Change Champion Award?

Her work in creating the outlines of a new organizing network is changing the
field.
