Introduction:

Petroleum Jelly is a semi-solid mixture of hydrocarbons, having a melting point usually in the
range of 30-40°C. It is also known as Vaseline. It is widely used in the cosmetic and
pharmaceutical industries. It is used as a moisturizer, lubricant, and to protect and heal dry skin.
Petroleum jelly is also used to make various ointments and creams.

Ingredients:

The main ingredient used in the production of petroleum jelly is mineral oil. Other ingredients
include:

1. Microcrystalline Wax
2. Paraffin Wax
3. Beeswax
4. Lanolin
5. Vitamin E Oil

Equipment:

1. Mixing Tank
2. Heating System
3. Filling Machine
4. Weighing Scale
5. Mixing Paddle
6. Packaging Material

Production Process:

1. Weighing and Mixing: The first step in the production of petroleum jelly is to weigh and mix the
ingredients. The mineral oil is heated to a specific temperature, and then the microcrystalline
wax, paraffin wax, beeswax, lanolin, and vitamin E oil are added to the mixing tank. The
ingredients are mixed thoroughly using a mixing paddle.
2. Heating: The mixture is then heated to a specific temperature to melt the waxes and blend the
ingredients properly.
3. Cooling: Once all the ingredients are melted and mixed thoroughly, the mixture is cooled down
slowly to a specific temperature. This process is done to avoid any air bubbles in the mixture.
4. Filling: After cooling, the petroleum jelly is then filled into containers or tubes using a filling
machine or manual method.

5. Packaging: The final step is to package the petroleum jelly into a suitable packaging material.

Conclusion:

Petroleum jelly is a widely used product in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. The
production process is relatively simple and can be done on a large scale using the right
equipment and ingredients. It is important to follow the correct procedures to ensure the quality
of the final product.
