Use graphical method to solve problems.

a L3 CO1 [6M]

A company owns two flour mills viz. A and B, which have different
2 production capacities for high, medium and low-quality flour. The
company has entered a contract to supply flour to a firm every month
with at least 8, 12 and 24 quintals of high, medium and low quality
respectively. It costs the company Rs.2000 and Rs.1500 per day to run
b L2 CO1 [6M]
mill A and B respectively. On a day, mill A produces 6, 2 and 4 quintals
of high, medium and low-quality flour, mill B produces 2, 4 and 12
quintals of high, medium and low quality flour respectively. How many
days per month should each mill be operated in order to meet the
contract order most economically? Formulate the LPP.

Four new machines M1,M2,M3,and M4 are to be installed in a machine
shop. There are 5 vacant places A,B,C,D and E available. Because of
4 limited space, machine M2 cannot be placed at C and M3 cannot be
placed at A. Cij, the assignment cost of machine ‘i’ to place ‘j’ in
rupees is shown below.

A company is faced with assigning 5 jobs to 5 operators. Each job must

be performed only by one operator. The cost of processing of each
operator is given below in Rs.
5 OPERATORS
P Q R S T
A 7 5 9 8 11
b B 9 12 6 11 10 L3 CO2 [6M]
JOBS
C 8 5 4 6 8
D 7 3 6 8 5
E 5 6 7 5 11
Determine the assignment of jobs to the operator so that it will result in
minimum cost.
6 There are seven jobs, each of which has to go through the machines A
and B in the order AB. Processing time in hours are given as;
Job: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7
a Machine A 3 12 15 6 10 11 9 L3 CO3 [6M]
Machine B 8 10 10 6 12 1 3
Determine sequence of these jobs that will minimize the total elapsed
time T. Also find T and idle time for machines A & B.
b In a bank, 20 customers on an average, are served by a cashier in an L3 CO3 [6M]
hour. If the service time has exponential distribution, what is the
probability that
(i) It will take more than 10 minutes to serve a customer?
A customer shall be free with in 4 minutes?
OR
A self-service store employs one cashier at its counter. 9 customers
arrive on an average every 5 minutes while the cashier can serve 10
customers in 5 minutes. Assuming poisson distribution for arrival rate
and exponential distribution for service time, find
a L3 CO3 [6M]
1. Average no of customers in the system
2. Average no. of customers in the queue
3. Average time a customer spends in the system
7 Average time a customer waits before being served.
We have five jobs each of which must go through two machines in the
order AB, processing times are given in the table below:
b L3 CO3 [6M]

Sequence the jobs so that the elapsed time is minimum.

a Write the factors effecting the inventory? L3 CO4 [6M]
