1. What is an Application Letter?
- An application letter is a summary of your strongest and most relevant
skills and abilities that will be expanded in your resume or selection
criteria. It introduces you to potential employers and highlights your
suitability for the position you are applying for.
2. What are the two types of Application Letters?
- Types of application letters fall into two broad categories. Letters of
application address job vacancies that are posted, while letters of
inquiry investigate the hidden job market, which may account for up to
60 percent of hires, according to FWF.
3. What are the parts of the Application Letter and give the meaning of each part.
- Header with your name and contact details
- Hiring manager's address
- Opening paragraph introducing yourself and your application
- Two body paragraphs explaining why you're a great candidate and I your
motivation behind the application
- Closing paragraph with a call to action directed at the employer
- Your signature and attachments list
4. Define the following:
a. Curriculum Vitae
- CV (also known as a curriculum vitae) is a very detailed document
that lists your work experience, skills, educational background
along with other academic achievements and it used be people
pursuing a career in academia.
b. Resume
- A resume is a summary of your education, job experience, and
job-related skills that you send to potential employers. From it and
the accompanying application letter, potential employers learn
about you and decide whether to interview you for a job.
c. Bio-data
- Biodata, short for biographical data, is a one- to three-page
document you use when applying for a job. Your biodata
summarizes most aspects of your life, including personal details,
education, skills and work experience.
5. List down the different types of Curriculum Vitae and define each.
- There are 2 main types of CV: Chronological (or traditional) CV, and
a skills-based (or functional) CV

Chronological CV
This type of CV lists your details, under appropriate headings, starting with the
most recent.

Skills-based or functional CV
This type of CV emphasises your skills and personal qualities rather than your
employment history

6. Show the differences among the types of Curriculum Vitae.


- There are three common CV types that will fit most industries:

● Functional (skills-based) CV
● Chronological CV
● Combined CV

7. What is the purpose or function of Application Letter?


- The purpose of a job application or résumé cover letter is to improve your
chances of being called for an interview, by convincing the reader that you would
be the best person for the job.
8. Define Job Interview. List down the types of Job Interview and differentiate each.
- A job interview is an interview consisting of a conversation between a job
applicant and a representative of an employer which is conducted to assess
whether the applicant should be hired.
- Traditional/Structured Interview: This is the most common type of interview where
the interviewer asks a series of predetermined questions to assess the
candidate's qualifications, skills, and fit for the role.
- Behavioral Interview: In this type of interview, the interviewer asks questions
about past experiences to understand how the candidate has handled specific
situations or challenges.
- Case Interview: Case interviews are commonly used in consulting, finance, and
business-related roles.
- Technical Interview: Technical interviews are conducted for positions that require
specialized technical skills or knowledge, such as software development,
engineering, or data analysis. Stress Interview: Stress interviews are designed to
put the candidate under pressure to observe their reaction, behavior, and ability
to handle stress.
9. What is the purpose of a Job Interview?
- The purpose of a job interview is to figure out if both parties will benefit from the
hire. Determine if the job and work environment meets your needs. Use your
notepad and pen to write down information or jot down a word that will remind
you to ask a certain question. Make sure your clothes are clean and pressed.
Allow sufficient travel time to ensure you arrive five minutes early to the front
desk.
10. Is the function of Job interview the same with career?
- No, the function of a job interview and a career are not the same. A job interview
is a specific event where a candidate is assessed for a particular job opportunity.
It aims to evaluate the candidate's qualifications, skills, and fit for the role. On the
other hand, a career refers to a person's overall professional journey,
encompassing multiple job experiences and long-term development in a chosen
field.
