skeletal muscles. EMG is

electromyograph to
produce a record called an
electromyogram
 Indications of the electromiografy

Electromyography is indicated to
diagnose cases with loss of strength,
tingling, and cramps, for example:

• Carpal tunnel síndrome

• Cervical disc disease with root
compression
• Lumbar disc disease affecting lower
limbs
• Diabetic neuropathy
• Post-trauma peripheral neuronal
damage
Indications of the electromiografy

EMG and nerve conduction

studies are used to help
diagnose a variety of muscle
and nerve disorders. An EMG
test helps find out if muscles
are responding the right way
to nerve signals. Nerve
conduction studies help
diagnose nerve damage or
disease.
Ergonomic assessment using the electromyographic technique consists of placing
electrodes on the surface of the skin, in the anatomical regions to be analyzed. It
is common to place them on the cervical, dorsal, lumbar, flexor and extensor
muscles of the wrist and hand, and these electrodes they will record the electrical
activity produced by the skeletal muscles continuously during several work cycles
to have a statistical representativeness. The electrical signal of the muscles is
recorded in a synchronized manner with a video recording of the work being
carried out, and which will later allow the identification of the critical points of
the task susceptible to a possible ergonomic intervention.

The signal from the electromyographic recording is treated using mathematical

algorithms that will allow different amplitude ranges to be compared against
biomechanical criteria such as Bengt Jonsson's, which have been internationally
recognized and widely accepted as an indicator of possible risk of fatigue and
muscle injury, to assess the existence or not risk.
