INITIAL DATA BASE of Family Wong

Family structure, characteristics and The family consists of four members: the
dynamics grandmother, two granddaughters, and a son.
Mrs. Nelda C. Wong, 75, is the family's head,
and her two granddaughters are Nicole Wong,
14 years old, Marijo Wong, 20 years old, and
her son Felix Wong, 47 years old.

The family resides in Naga City's Barangay

Calauag, on Blacer Street.

The family is matriarchal, and the grandmother

makes family and health decisions. The
residence is under an extended family

Socio-economic and cultural characteristics Mrs. Wong is a high school graduate, while her
son, Felix Wong, is a college graduate. Mrs.
Wong looks after both of her granddaughters.

Mr. Felix Wong works at the Bicol Medical

Centre's Blood Bank. His current income is
unknown, but he supports the family along
with his two older siblings, all of whom live in
Manila.
The family is Roman Catholic, but they are not
involved in religious activities or are devoted to
their religious beliefs.

Home and environment The family lives in a one-story house with two
spacious bedrooms made of concrete materials.
They have a garden full of poultry, most of
which are caged and tied. They only have one
dining area, which is close to their living room.

The family cleans and maintains the house on a

daily basis. Everything is well-organized and
simple to find. There are no dangerous objects
lying around, plants are well cared for, and they
have two dogs, small and large, who are potty
trained and well cared for. They have their own
water supply and are separated from the other
houses by a fence.

Outside the gate of the family's home, there is

an open drainage system that exhibits evident
water stagnation, with garbage, mosquitoes,
and moss accumulating in the stagnant water.
Due to poor management, the water has started
to turn black, and during heavy rains, it floods,
entering their house.

The neighborhood is very peaceful and quiet.

They have their own motorcycle, but they also
ride tricycles on occasion. They have a
barangay health center where they go for
check-ups once a week.

Health status of each family member The grandmother expresses that she visits the
barangay health center on a weekly basis for
check-ups and medication refills and that she
has had no previous illnesses. Every Sunday at
6 a.m., she attends Zumba classes for the
elderly. She stated that her health status has
changed since she was fully vaccinated and had
boosters, as she occasionally gets headaches or
a runny nose, which are all checked by the
physician, and she is drinking medicines such
as Vitamin B complex, Amlodipine, and
Losartan, which are all prescribed by the
physician.

The other members of the family said they had

no previous illnesses but went for check-ups
just to be sure.

Mr. Felix is the only family member who drinks

alcohol, but only on special occasions; the other
members, according to them, never drank or
smoked.

Values, habits and practices on health Except for the younger members, who are busy
promotion and disease prevention studying for school, playing games, or scrolling
through social media, the elder members of the
family have adequate rest, sleep, and activities
