Learning Teaching Experience 7: The Capstone of my Teaching Internship Journey

Name: Manalang, Charlene Louise D. Course/Section: BEEd-4B Date: ____________

Cooperating Teacher: Ma’am Imelda F. Chin Subject: Filipino VI
Intended Learning Outcome: Demonstrate instructional and management skills in conducting
sustained teaching in varying settings, individuals, group or whole class
I. Experiential Tasks:
a. Exposure: GETTING READY FOR THE “SOLO TEACHING FLIGHT”
b. Participation: Trying My Best Teaching Wings
c. Identification: A walk through my sustained teaching experience.
d. Internalization: Understanding myself as a learning Teacher
e. Dissemination: My demonstration teaching plan.

11.1 EXPOSURE: GETTING READY FOR THE “SOLO TEACHING FLIGHT”

Building a sense of professional self-esteem through demonstration teaching has
multiple functions in your pre-service development. It enhances your thinking and
decision processes related to planning, implementation and assessment of your teaching.
It also integrates the theoretical and practical knowledge you acquired from your different
Learning Teaching Experiences: Assisting, Planning, First Teaching, and Sustained
Teaching. More importantly, demonstration teaching will develop your credibility as a
beginning teacher. You are now charged with the same responsibilities as your
experienced Mentor Teacher.
In this episode, you will experience two types of demonstration: symbolic and
perceptual. Writing your plan is symbolic demonstration and teaching your plan is
perceptual demonstration. Furthermore, demonstration teaching creates a feeling of
anticipation for you, your students, your Mentor Teacher, you College Supervisors and
other invited teachers.
PHASE 1- Decision Making Phase
Activity 1
Zoom your planning lens to you demo teaching coaches and support team.
Put a check to those who are directly involved in the planning phase of your demonstration
teaching.
Mentor Teacher ✔️
College Supervisor ✔️
Cooperating School Subject Head ✔️
College Department Head ✔️
My Self ✔️
Others (Please indicate)__________________________

Activity 2: Collaborative Pre-Planning

The most important responsibility of your demonstration teaching coaches is to make
sure you can swim on your own demo teaching.

Record what you can offer and the suggestions of your student teaching coaches.

From my Mentor Teacher

She suggested that I must give different types of activity to each group to avoid them from copying
each other’s work. She also reminded me about the three objectives and they must be aligned with all
the activities and assessments that I will give.

From my College Supervisor

She suggested that I must ask the students to read aloud when presenting their output in front. I must
also give proper instructions when I am giving a group activity and let the students know that I am
always guiding them and encourage everyone to participate.

Activity 3:
Consult your Mentor Teacher/College Supervisor on teaching process and other essentials that
need to be demonstrated.

When I consulted my MT, she reminded me to check the curriculum guide for me to pick the topic or
lesson that I must discuss in my Final Demonstration. She lets me pick my own topic wherein I can
give my best. She told me that planning and preparing the things that I need 2 weeks before is the most
ideal preparation time, for me to finish on time and give my best shot. She told me one by one, all the
things that I need to prepare, the first and foremost is my detailed lesson plan which I can use as my
guide. The second one is my instructional materials, that I must use traditional instructional materials
and also use incorporate the use of technology inside the classroom. I must also know how to manage
the classroom when someone is not listening or disturbing the class. She told me that I also need to
look confident and prepared as soon as I stand in front of the class.
11.2 PARTICIPATION: Trying My Best Teaching Wings
You are now ready to write a plan for the specific aspects of your demonstration lesson.
Highlight in your plan the necessary suggestions of your Mentor Teacher and College
Supervisor. It is more likely that you will prepare a detailed plan.

Inquire from your Mentor Teacher what apperceptive bases must be considered for
connecting you demonstration lesson to student’s previous learning.

My MT suggested that I must not just proceed to the new lesson, rather use different techniques on
how I can include the past/previous lesson to my new lesson. In that way, they will have an idea on
what will be the lesson all about and connect the previous lesson to the new one. Repeating the previous
lesson to the students will also help them to retain and familiarize themselves to the topic that was
discussed to them and in that way, they will gain more knowledge and they will not just take a quiz
and after that they will eventually forget about it.

Check evidences of your readiness. Here are some important points you can check yourself.
1. Familiarity with the learners.

2. Comprehensive well-planned lessons.

3. Adequate knowledge of the subject matter.

4. Available and sufficient instructional materials.

5. Balanced and appropriate: individual and group activities.

6. Familiarity with class routines and management.

7. Provisions for the unpredictable.

Others:

8. Integration of the lesson to different subjects

9.

10.

As you move through your demonstration teaching, analyse the flow of

your lesson. During your teaching moment, you are now the best judge of your teaching. In light
of consequences in your teaching moment, some aspects of your planned decisions and actions
may not work. Do not be afraid to consider alternatives. Try more effective ideas.

11.3 IDENTIFICATION: A Walk Through My Sustained Teaching Experience

11.4 IDENTIFICATION: Understanding Myself as a Learner Teacher

A. Post Learning Debriefing
It is important that post demonstration conference be conducted immediately after
demonstration lesson.
1.What did you think of your demonstration teaching? Did the lesson go as planned?
Yes! The lesson go as planned. From the construction of the lesson plan up to the way how
I discussed it to my students. I familiarize myself from each part of my lesson so that I can teach
my lesson very well. I also think I did my best on my teaching demonstration because students
enjoyed the activities as well as the questions given to them were answered properly and briefly.
2. What part of your teaching do you strongly think went well?
The lesson proper itself really went well, because the observer commended how I execute
my teaching. The students are enjoying every part of the lesson and they really learned something
new from me. From my own perspective, the motivation part was also good because I integrated
the rules on how to listen when someone is reading a story. All in all, it was a successful teaching
demonstration.

3. What did you learn about yourself as a teacher?

From the past 3 years of my life in college taking up this course, I thought that I am not destined
to become a teacher, because I look down myself most of the time. I sometimes let the insecurities
and frustrations swallow me. But I learned that I can really excel on my dreams and aspiration to
become a teacher as long as I am dedicated and motivated to do it. I learned that I can be more and
I am not just a student teacher, I am a student teacher who can inspire and aspire to become a
licensed professional teacher someday and use my life in educating the youth of this nation.
4. What aspects of your demonstration teaching needs improvement?
As soon as the group activity was done, I can really sense that it can still be improve. I overlook
the students once they already started their activity. I forgot to mention the rules and encourage
everyone to participate. I believe after that demonstration, I now know how to execute and guide
the students on their group activity.
11.5 DISSEMINATION: My Demonstration Teaching Plan
Given the comments from the lenses of yourself, Mentor Teacher, College Supervisor,
subject head, invited teachers and students, rewrite your demonstration teaching plan.
