Relationship between the distance of a flashlight from a screen and the diameter of the

circle on the screen

Course Code:

Date:

Purpose:
-What is the relation between the distance of a flashlight from a screen and the diameter of
the circle on the screen.

Hypothesis:
-The further I move the flashlight off the board, the bigger the circle becomes.

Materials:
-Flashlight, black marker and a tape measure

Procedure:
-We always moved the flashlight wider away from the boards and then we measured the
size of the circle. After that we wrote our results down…

Observations:
Flashlight distance Circle-diameter
1. 3.5cm 9.5cm
2. 5cm 12.5cm
3. 10.5cm 23.5cm
4. 16.5cm 36cm
5. 26.5 53cm

Sources of Error:
-Noel’s hand, because he couldn’t hold the flashlight straight and the marker-lines.

Circle-Diameter (cm)

Distance-Flashlight (cm)

This graph shows me that the farther I move the flashlight away, the bigger the diameter
became.
Conclusions:
-My hypothesis has more or less proved correct. My result is that the farther I removed the
flashlight from the blackboard, the bigger the circle became.
