Rajesh Magar
When people think of Nepal, they often think of mountain climbing, but not mountain biking.
However, that might change thanks to a young man named Rajesh Magar. Rajesh is a
mountain-biking expert and a National Geographic 2018 Adventurer of the Year. When he was
small, he didn’t have a bike. Then at the age of ten, one of his mother’s friends gave him one.
He taught himself to ride and set off into the mountains. Later, he built his own mountain bike.
He watched videos to learn how to repair his bike and how to ride on challenging routes in the
mountains. He got a job repairing mountain bikes and he also worked as a tour guide. Since
then, he has been taking part in lots of mountain bike races – in Nepal and in other countries.
Rajesh really enjoys this extreme sport.

Dougal Robertson
Dougal Robertson wanted to take his family on an adventure to see the world. He was born in
Scotland, but he moved to England where he worked as a farmer until he’d saved enough
money to buy a boat. After he and his family had crossed the Atlantic Ocean, they spent
seventeen months sailing around the Caribbean. Everything was going well until their boat
was hit by orcas (killer whales). When it started to sink, they climbed into a small lifeboat. They
didn’t have much food or water, but they survived. By the time they were rescued by a
Japanese fishing boat, they’d been in the lifeboat for 38 days.
