environmentally friendly
as they can be.

Product development is one area in which
manufacturers can do their bit, and Ruberoid
has excelled with products which not only help
to make buildings more energy efficient, but
which themselves are sustainable in their design
and production.
Hyload DPCs were developed in the 1960s and
many use over 70% recycled material, including
waste material from other manufacturing
industries. Much of this would have been
destined for landfill, but is now recycled into
Hyload materials.
The new Hyload production plant in
Chesterfield was designed with a particularly
efficient water recycling system - most of the
water lost at the plant is through evaporation.
The walls include extra insulation to make the
building acoustically excellent and thermally
efficient.

and operates to it’s own stringent environmental B U I L D I N G P R O D U C T S
standards.
At Ruberoid’s main UK manufacturing site in
Appley Bridge, Wigan, a programme to reduce
the amount of general waste sent to landfill has
been implemented. Waste is segregated and
balers have been introduced to compress waste
materials. Paper, card, bulk mineral bags, pallet
wrappings and trimmings from polyester and
glass fibre substrates are compacted and
returned for recycling. As a result, transport is
reduced and waste processing is much more
efficient. A S P H A L T
Ensuring that Ruberoid operates in as green a
way as possible is an ongoing programme and
this philosophy is embraced by all employees.
In 2007 Ruberoid were highly commended at
the Construction Marketing Awards category for
Corporate Social Responsibility.
