Today, I am going to introduce a famous designer:貝聿銘, known as the last master

of modernist architecture. He obtained countless awards in architecture throughout
his life because his every single unique design always shocked people eyes.

One of his well-known masterpieces is the Expansion of the Louvre in Paris. In this
project, he had intended to build a pyramid constructed of glass and metal as the
main entrance to the Louvre Museum.

However, his ideal was rejected by the French, and over 90% of the locals opposed
the construction of a glass pyramid in front of the Louvre. From the French
perspective, they thought Louvre is full of classical atmosphere, and the design of
the pyramid is too modern compared to the Louvre. The match between the Louvre
and the glass pyramid is weird or even ridiculous in the French people. Even the
American magazine <The New York Times> criticized his design totally is a joke at all.

He had said that the beginning of the construction was the hardest moment,
because most of the French not satisfied with his design and when he walked on the
street of Paris, the locals stared him in an unfriendly way which made him always
uncomfortable.

As a result, the construction was still conducted and completed in 1989 under the
high pressure of the French people.

Nowadays, the glass pyramid in front of the Louvre is a famous landmark of France,
attracting countless tourists to go sightseeing there every year and the critical sound
of the design of glass pyramid declined gradually.

First of all, I am a local student actually, I can say that I have explored every corner of
Macau basically, but I noticed something special recently while I was going to the
university by bus when the bus went through the bridge, I can always see the Macau
Guia Lighthouse located on the top of the Guia hill, its appearance is just like a white
cone stand straightly on the hill, you can see the lighthouse was full of Portuguese
style which caused out a great contrast to the buildings below the hill and it was
designed by a Portuguese designer in 1865, also it actually was included in World
Heritage List in 2005.

The main characteristic that draws my eyes is especially at nighttime when the
lighthouse operated. Although it was included in World Heritage List, the
government still decided to use it as its original function: guiding the Navigators. Its
light able to cover the whole city of Macau. Even though the citizen is fall asleep, the
lighthouse is continuing to work at the midnight.

At that moment, the lights of the Guia lighthouse are as bright as the star flashing in
the deep black sky, and also it still provides its service to the people who sail on the
sea nowadays. Guiding them in the right direction since it was made in 1865.

The other interesting thing about the Guia lighthouse is that the government printed
the shape of the lighthouse on the coin, so that you can found it on the Macau one
dollars.

This situation is quite common in our daily life. When it comes to how to deal with
such anxiety, I have heard a lot of persons discussing about this topic before, and the
method they take generally is pay much more effort to catch up or even surpass your
peer as fast as possible.

But from my perspective, this way which is too hard to reach the goal: get rid of the
anxiety of peer competition and not suitable for me at all. Because I am not a person
who is really self-discipline. In other words, which means I unable to manage my
time greatly. So, I think the strategy they suggested which is not suitable for me to
accomplish the target.

In my own way, I may take meditation as my solution when I face the anxiety such as
peer competition, because meditation is the fastest and easiest way to eliminate the
stress, when you conduct meditation, you put all of your attention on your breath,
and you just focus on your breath completely at that moment. So that your anxiety
vanishes after few minutes during meditation, and then you able to have a think
about how to solve the anxiety of peer competition in long term.

Maybe you can tell to yourself that there will always be someone better than you,
competition is like a bottomless hole. So, it doesn't matter that behind someone
else.

What is the most vital thing is compared to yourself in the past instead of comparing
to the other. So that you can get even more progress and focus on every aspect you
concerned.
