Video Critique:
Environmental Governance Strategies
The environment is no one's property to destroy; it's everyone's responsibility to protect. This was the realization that was imparted to me
after watching the video of Mr. Gerald M. Salas discussing about the Overview of Environmental Management in the Philippines.

Environmental governance refers to how society determines and acts on goals and priorities related to the management of the
environment and natural resources. He also tackled the evolution of environmental law in the Philippines which started in 1866 with the
Spanish law of Water which made classifications of public waters or of public ownership then the Acts developed under American Colonial
Rule: Acts No. 2152 which focuses on the system of appropriation of public waters, Acts No. 2812 which prohibits the cutting of fruit trees and
bushes without special permit, Acts No. 3992 which amends and compile the law relative to motor vehicles and Acts No. 3983 which
protects the wild flowers and plants in the Philippines. He also mentioned the Acts developed during the commonwealth period, postwar
period, and the legislative enactments during martial law. He also discussed the dynamics of environmental governance which are the
multi-sectoral governance which includes the government, private sectors and NGOs; and multi-level governance which includes the
local governance, regional governance, national governance and international governance. He also discussed the multi-lateral
environmental agreements or MEA which is the most prominent feature that regulate the process of international level. The environmental
strategies have also been tackled. The environmental laws.
One of the topics that interests me most is the Environmental Governance Strategies. I have learned that the Philippines follow certain
environmental strategies which involves the decentralization, devolution, and co-management. First is decentralization, it involves the
lowering of the loci decision -making among national government agencies, to their offices and regions, provinces, municipalities, or cities.
Second devolution, it involves the process of some functions of national government agencies to local government units. It widened the
participation of local governments and environmental governance nationwide. The third one is co-management, it refers to government
and local communities undertaking join action to address an environmental problem, usually concerning the development and use of
resources. Governance and agenda setting is jointly done by government agencies and the residents of a local community. Environmental
Governance Strategies show how everyone can participate in planning, brainstorming, decision making and problem solving. This kind of
strategy can also be used in different aspects of life, specifically in our workplace. It is a big thing that all workers will feel included. When
everyone is involved, they will feel validated and valued. When everyone is involved, the work becomes easier.

Another topic that interests me was the laws governing our environment. I was surprised to learn that there are different Acts and Laws
that protect our environment. I also learned the different government bodies that has specific functions in protecting our environment. The
law enforcement and adjudication of environmental cases are important aspects of environmental governance and management.
