The  Players  use  the  following  instruments:

1  Percussion:  6  graduated  water  buffalo  bells,  6  graduated  muted  brake  drums;

2  Percussion:  2  sistra,  6  graduated  sleigh  bells,  6  brake  drums,  1  thundersheet;

3  Percussion:  3  graduated  Japanese  Temple  gongs,  tam-‐tam,  6  graduated  cowbells;

4  Percussion:  6  muted  Chinese  gongs,  tam-‐tam,  (slightly  lower  in  pitch  than  3  Percussion),
water  gong  (small  122-‐162  diameter;
chinese  gong  raised  or  lowered  into  tub  of  water  during  the  production  of  tone).

Substitutions  of  the  above,  if  necessary,  may  be  chosen  by  keeping
the  soprano-‐alto-‐tenor-‐bass  relation  of  the  part  clear.

The  joint  performance  begins  after  the  3rd  Player  has  obtained  a  tone  from  japanese  temple  gong
(produced  by  friction  of  leather  covered  wooden  beater  on  the  rim  of  the  bowl).
The  3rd  Player  uses  his  measures  of  rest  before  each  temple  gong  entrance  to  make  sure  such
preparation  thus,  the  tone  may  begin  earlier  than  notated.
The  performance  ends  with  a  cut-‐off  unison,  at  what  would  be  the  first  beat  of  bar  201,  without  ritard.

The  dynamics  are  scarcely  indicated;
the  first  note  of  each  group  of  8th  notes  may  be  given  a  slight  accent;
the  piece  does  not  progress  from  soft  to  loud  but  is  continuosly  festive  in  intention;
the  changes  in  amount  and  nature  of  activity  producing  changes  in  amplitude.
