Beam Bending Analysis and Load Capacity

The document details a beam bending analysis where 5 different beam designs will be analyzed for their load bearing capacity and factors of safety. Two analyses will be run for each beam: 1) calculating the factor of safety under a distributed and point load, and 2) determining the maximum point load 1285.5mm from the beam center. The beams and analysis setup are described.

BEAM BENDING ANALYSIS

• We would like the 5 beams shown in Section 1

analyzed for load bearing capacity. Failure due to
buckling must be considered.

• We would like the 2 results shown in Section 2

reported for each beam.

• Additional simulation study setup details are

provided in Section 3.

• All material can be defined as 235 MPa steel.

• All material contact can be defined as bonded.

SECTION 2: STUDIES FOR EACH BEAM
1. Provide factor of safety for each design using the combined
DISTRIBUTED LOAD and POINT LOAD provided below.
Consider the first failure mode, whether static or buckling.
• (Load is symmetric, mirrored on opposite side of beam
if using full solid model for analysis.)

Distributed Load (red shaded area): 2053 N

Point Load at End (red arrow): 1232 N

2. Provide the maximum/critical point load at the location

shown, 1285.5mm from the center of the beam, whether
from buckling or material yielding.
SECTION 3: STUDY SETUP DETAIL
→ Fixed part of beam for studies #1-4 are the faces of the holes
in the plate as shown below.

→ Fixed part of beam for study #5 is a 150mm wide rectangular

section of the bottom face of the beam as shown below.
