Abstract

Massive data technologies are considered as one of the most advanced ongoing technologies in the IT
world. Lately, It has become an important issue in many fields because of its advantages and high
capabilities of flexibility, so that all disciplines must deal with it and benefit from it. benefit

This study aims to uncover the huge data amount in the King Fahd National Library by identifying the
sources that can constitute the huge data content in the library and identifying the difficulties that it
faces in utilizing the huge data.

Based on the nature of the study and its objectives, the researcher followed the descriptive approach
using the case study method. The questionnaire was used to collect the data of the study and distribute
it to the employees in the King Fahd National Library. After the preparation of the study tool; the
questionnaire was distributed to a sample of (143) employees; 58 responded to it representing 41% of
the study population, and then the questionnaire was analyzed and interpreted.

After the analysis was done, the study came out with results, most notably:

 That the sample members agree on the sources, which can be the content of the large data, in
the King Fahd National Library which are ; the library index, reference services, electronic
resources, electronic processes within the library.
 That the members of the study sample agree on the difficulties faced by the library to benefit
from the huge data such as ; the lack of specialists in the process of analyzing large data, and
that there are no seminars and forums, dealing with the subject of huge data besides to the very
high financial cost.
 They also agree on the appropriate methods to identify the future needs of users of data
sources such as; reference data analysis software, selective data transmission service,
questionnaire and interview.

The researcher presented several recommendations based on these results, the most important of
which are:

 The Libraries Initiative to train its staff in the skills of use huge data contents, data mining and
analyzing.
 Libraries focus on presenting initiatives, workshops , dealing with the subject of huge data in
libraries, how to apply it, and how to use it.
 The researcher recommends universities, libraries departments and information systems to
develop courses in the study plan in terms of how to manage and utilize large data and to
graduate specialists in data mining and analysis
