Step 5: Answer the question. The answer to the question is the thesis statement for the
essay.
1. It’s morally wrong because it causes harm, suffering and pain to animals. As animals are
sentient beings that can experience pain.
2. It is against our moral values and its not necessary for our survival. It causes long-term
physical and psychological damage. Causing pain to animals is a form of violence.
3. Animals have rights and deserve to be treated with respect. As it is cruel and unnecessary
to test on animals. Animals have the right to live free from harm and exploitation.
Now, identify the 5 reasons you have for making the thesis statement. Remember above when it
asked you to find the 3 most interesting details? That should lead you to the focus for each
paragraph and to your topic sentences. Take the 3 reasons (add a few more depending upon
your paper length) you have for making the thesis statement that you did. And turn them into
topic sentences.
Topic sentence #1: Animal testing is unethical due to how is is inhumane to experiment on
animals.
Topic sentence #2: Testing on animals goes against our moral values and is unnecessary to do
experiment on animals.
‘Topic sentence #3: Animals are sentient beings that can experience pain; therefore, it is morally
wrong to conduct experiments on them.
Topic sentence #4: Testing animals against their will is unethical because animals have rights
and deserve to be treated with respect.
Topic sentence #5: Animals have rights to live free from harm and exploitation, so if we conduct
experiments it is a cause of suffering which is a form of violence we are doing.
