PART 3: ETHIC AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

By engaging in activities outside of our businesses and places of employment, we can affect our
society more profoundly. We may change our surroundings and communities with each helping
hand extended. Our CSR initiatives at 99 Speedmart are concentrated on community,
environmental conservation, and community-related issues.
Responsibility For Environmental Protection
The first ethical and social responsibility is responsibility for environmental protection. All 99
Speedmart Distribution Centers will implement strategies to lessen our organization's carbon
footprint starting in August 2018. To reduce our impact on global warming over the course of
five years, solar panels will gradually be put in all of our current and future distribution centers,
beginning with the 7th center in Yong Peng.
Besides that, with building funding contributed by 99 Speedmart in the amount of RM500,000,
Shah Alam's first contemporary recycling center began operations in December 2018. The gift is
the result of customers regularly buying plastic bags at our stores. Then, on 20 April 2017, 99
Speedmart presented an RM500,000 check to Datuk Bandar Klang, Y.A.D. Dato Setia Diraja
Dato' Abdul Ghani Bin Peteh Akhir on behalf of the PR Relations Director (Ms. Ng Lee Tieng)
and several administrators to assist in the rehabilitation and district-wide cleanup of the Klang
River.
Additional information, 99 Speedmart still being provided hippo sponsorship to Zoo Negara. On
April 28, 2022, a fictitious RM125,084 check was given to Rosly Ahmat Lana, vice president of
Zoo Negara. After the zoo was forced to close due to the Movement Control Order, which
resulted in a loss of admission fees and donations, 99 Speedmart decided to take over the
sponsorship effort that pays for the food, medication, signage replacement, and salaries of
caregivers for the 2 Nile hippos. This sponsorship is now in its third year.
Responsibility For Welfare
The second ethic and social responsibility is responsibility for welfare. 99 Speedmart also
distributed the face marks to our esteemed clients in various locations to protect them from the
haze. On 23 March 2020, food donations in the form of necessities will be given to the B40
group during the Movement Control Order (MCO), which is in place because of the spread of
Covid-19.
As far as we are aware, 99 Speedmart has committed to the blood donation campaign. I'll use an
example to illustrate what I'm about to say. On the 7th of November 2020 ,99 Speedmart and
St.John Ambulance Malaysia have worked together to organize blood donation campaigns in
different states in accordance with the Ministry of Health Malaysia's recommendations. 2088
blood bags in total were gathered from donors in the Federal Territory, Selangor, Melaka, Johor,
Perak and other states.
Responsibility is For Community
The third ethic and social responsibility is for community. The Selangor Fire & Rescue
Department and 99 Speedmart have been collaborating to provide food packages in response to
the recent flood calamity. With support from the fire department, the food boxes will be given
out to the flood victims.
Additionally, 99 Speedmart provided medical equipment valued RM1,884,650.00. donated
different medical equipment, such as ultrasound, ventilators, isolators, PAPRs, and other items,
to 18 hospitals in Selangor, Kedah, Sabah and Johor.
99 Speedmart building a cooperation relationship with the Ministry of Human Resources, 99
Speedmart presented 1,000 hampers to YB Datuk Seri M. Saravanan, Minister of Human
Resources, in a symbolic gesture. Hampers will be distributed to B40 groups in need in the
impacted states during this year's Deepavali festivities by the Ministry of Human Resources.
Impacts of those social responsibilities on business
Indeed, embracing social responsibility can have several positive impacts on a company's
business and overall success. Here are some of the key benefits.
A company's commitment to social responsibility can indeed increase its competitiveness in the
market. Many customers concur that a company's commitment to social responsibility is a
significant factor to consider before doing business or shopping with them. You may promote
your brand's social responsibility through marketing and brand positioning.
Besides that, a company's commitment to social responsibility can make it more appealing to
investors, both from a financial and ethical perspective. Investors typically think that a
company's commitment to social change is a great way to position it for long-term success.
While striking a balance between an organization's focus on profitability and social initiatives is
necessary, doing effectively can open countless opportunities for businesses.
Indeed, adopting social responsibility can boost a company's value and profitability, especially
when done through environmentally friendly practices. Companies frequently discover that by
implementing more environmentally friendly practices and starting to recycle, they can reduce
operating expenses while also helping the environment. The company's reputation and overall
value are both enhanced by social responsibility.
In some cases, governments and regulators may offer incentives or preferential treatment to
companies that actively engage in social responsibility initiatives, such as tax benefits or
favorable regulations. This can further contribute to a company's competitiveness.

Part 4 MANAGEMENT
Three tiers of management, including top management, which is primarily in charge of
monitoring all operations, middle management, which is in charge of carrying out plans
and policies, and first-line management, which is in charge of carrying out specific tasks
and producing results, run 99 Speedmart. They are also known as executive
management, supervisory management, and administrative management. Each of
these managements is significant and essential to the organization's success.

TOP MANAGEMENT
The top management of the company, which includes the president and other senior
executives like the chief executive officer, chief financial officer, and chief operating
officer and is in charge of the whole company, is the highest authority inside it. Their
responsibilities include overseeing all plans, maintaining remuneration in accordance
with performance, and promoting worker diversity. Additionally, they decide on the
organization's strategies, which are major plans or concepts for allocating resources to
seize opportunities. As of 2022, some of their duties include hiring middle managers
and department heads, maintaining external communication, creating the organization's
major plans and policies, setting and enforcing the organization's main business
objectives in the near future, creating guidelines that lower management uses to create
specific goals, budgets, procedures, and policies, and creating the overall organizational
strategy. (2021 Joycelyn)The owner of 99 SPEEDMART, Mr. Lee Thiam Wah, originally
established Pasar Raya Hiap Hoe, a general merchandise store. He had an idea of
what the company may develop into in the future and worked toward realizing it. And
eventually, it developed into the name for the chain of convenience stores that is today
called 99 Speedmart, well known for its reasonable prices and extensive selection.

MIDDLE MANAGEMENT
Middle management, which is equally important to the organization's performance, is in
charge of developing the tactical and operational plans that will carry out the
overarching directive issued by top management. They work closely with senior
management, participate in each aspect of the business, and spend more time planning
than other managers. They are responsible for hiring employees and giving them the
proper assignments depending on their training and experience (in fact, 2022).
Additionally, they must verify that everything is carried out to a specific caliber. In order
to safeguard the workers' physical and emotional wellbeing, it was also their obligation
to keep in touch with them. To boost productivity, managers at 99 Speedmart ensure
that employees do their tasks accurately and efficiently.

FIRST-LINE MANAGEMENT
First-line management, often referred to as a foreman, supervisor, or office manager, is
in charge of overseeing employees' day-to-day activities inside the company. They are
in charge of executing middle management's strategies and supervising employees'
day-to-day performance at work. Their main objective is to supervise a team of
personnel or a department to make sure everything is running smoothly (In fact, 2022).
To put it another way, they ensure that their team accomplishes the daily and overall
objectives of a certain firm. The former 99 Speedmart manager reportedly loved working
there since they got to discover and comprehend new things. They have also developed
the ability to maintain their composure when dealing with issues involving consumers or
staff.(510WORDS)
